Overview
I have lived all up and down the East Coast. I was born in Maine, lived in Virginia, attended medical school in Miami, trained in Chicago and ended up in Tennessee because my family had moved here. I am married with two children, ages five and nine. This is a great community for our family. We are blessed with great friends, and the weather is a happy medium after living in the opposite extremes of Miami and Chicago. My husband and I are big race fans, so we love traveling to see races. I first became interested in medicine when I took a high school explorer’s course for health professions, and after my first rotation in medical school, I knew that I wanted to do obstetrics and gynecology. It was the one rotation that I could get up for at 4 a.m., come home to read about and still be excited to go in the next day. As a physician, I like to take care of the entire person, listening to what she has to say. Oftentimes the patient is there for one reason, but as we talk sometimes another concern may reveal itself. A native of Elizabethton, I graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1984 and completed my undergraduate studies at Southern Missionary College in 1988. After receiving my medical education from East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine and graduating in 1992, I completed my OB/GYN specialty training at the University of Tennessee while serving at Baroness Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. I was encouraged by strong family ties to the Tri-Cities area where my father, mother, brother and sister practiced in various fields of medicine. Because I value my close relationships with God and family, I returned home to start my own practice in 1996. Since that time, I have been blessed with three wonderful children. There have been many challenges, rewards and miracles as a parent that have made me stronger and – in some ways – made me the physician I am today. As each child I deliver is born, I pause to reflect on what lives the little one will impact. I provide care from adolescence to geriatrics, as well as those needing specialized care. I enjoy providing reproductive healthcare services and never take for granted my role in bringing new lives into the world. I specialize in performing minimally invasive surgical procedures. I have pursued this specialty by promoting the role of advanced laparoscopic techniques and expanded my traditional laparoscopic skills to include the provision of da Vinci® robotic surgery and single-port techniques, as well as pelvic support procedures.
