After working as a design engineer for two years, he attended Temple University School of Medicine and completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Temple University Hospital. He received specialized training in elbow and upper extremity surgery at the Philadelphia Hand Center at Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Kaufmann has published more than 30 articles, book chapters, and textbooks. He regularly presents his clinical and research findings at national meetings. Dr. Kaufmann is the primary upper extremity surgeon for the University of Pittsburgh and the Duquesne University athletic programs. He is also part of the medical team that treats the Pittsburgh Penguins. He specializes in the care of athletes and active adults, and has extensive experience with arthroscopy and arthroplasty of the elbow, wrist, and hand.
