Dr. Manabe began her career working on the basic science aspects of tuberculosis (TB) immunopathogenesis in comparative animal models of infection, particularly latency, reactivation, and immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS) in the rabbit model within the Johns Hopkins Center for Tuberculosis Research.
