Dr. Michael S. Quist
Overview
I specialize in the medical and surgical management of cataracts and glaucoma. In my clinic, we utilize the latest imaging techniques to detect glaucoma and track any possible progression so we can treat the disease before it adversely affects quality of life. My goal is to provide individualized care, tailoring my approach to each patient, to treat their eye disease effectively. This partnership involves taking time to educate patients on the anatomy and pathology involved with their visual symptoms, and then making decisions together about potential treatment options based on the best available research and evidence. As glaucoma is a chronic disease, I value building long-lasting relationships with my patients. I also enjoy educating trainees at the Duke Eye Center. Outside work, I enjoy time with family, traveling, and playing tennis. I’m honored to have the opportunity to help people with their eye diseases. I look forward to meeting you.

I am a clinician dedicated to helping children and adults preserve and restore their vision. I perform a wide variety of procedures including cataract surgery, cornea transplants and Lasik surgery. I also see a large number of patients with ocular surface disease, ranging from dry eye to limbal stem cell disease. At Duke, we are able to offer new technologies and unique surgeries for these conditions. I truly love what I do and the relationships I build with my patients. In addition to my work at Duke Health, I am heavily involved in humanitarian eye care in Africa and around the world. I live in Chapel Hill with my wife and three children who helped me write and produce a full-length musical called “RISE.” We also enjoy cycling, rock climbing, and building and playing guitars, basses, and drums.
