I chose orthopedics because I love helping people get back on their feet, and I looked at how happy Orthopedic surgeons were 20 years into their practice. That is always a good sign that you have chosen a career path wisely! I was once a kid myself! Growing up I was a babysitter and a nanny, so I kind of grew up around kids. When I did mission work in Guatemala, I gravitated toward taking care of children. When I became interested in pediatric orthopedics, I started focusing on deformity correction because that mostly affects children. I’m passionate about being a doctor in general, and a doctor at Nemours in particular. Also, I think it’s important for people to learn to take care of themselves. As health issues, smoking and obesity are personal hot-buttons for me. I love what I do, and enjoy the interaction with parents and kids. I treat the whole patient as an individual, not just their orthopedic needs, and I treat each child as my own. I was born in India to a family of doctors, so I did not have to look far for inspiration. I’m married to a pediatric cardiologist, also with duPont Hospital for Children, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I have every day to improve lives for kids and their families. As a father and surgeon, I have a soft spot for helping children in any way I can. It’s a privilege to be able to improve their lives even if there are challenges. I love to see kids getting back to enjoying life to its fullest and being able to help people deal with difficult issues. One of my proudest professional moments was the day I walked into the operating room and had the privilege to start surgically caring for children. I’m still passionate about my work and the opportunities I have every day to improve the lives of kids, one child at a time. The children I treat have serious medical problems, and it takes a whole team of professionals, working in lots of related medical and sociological fields, to make a difference in their lives, and the lives of their families. It’s an honor to be part of that team. At the end of the day, it’s all about the kids. Dr. Thacker is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Congenital Femoral Deficiency. Both of my parents were in the medical field and strongly influenced the direction of my career. I became a physical therapist, which I enjoyed immensely, but I thought I could make a different contribution to patient care by becoming a physician. In radiology, we are part of the medical team that helps diagnose or exclude an illness and we help to direct the course of our patient’s treatment. Working with children is an amazing experience. Kids are so resilient and bounce back from all types of difficult situations. They each have such a unique perspective and we try our best to tailor our interactive imaging procedures to the child. Sometimes this involves providing anatomy lessons to teen patients, other times it involves just “getting it over with.” We aim to make our imaging procedures as interesting and as comfortable as possible. My areas of interest include: Pediatric Body Imaging  Fetal Imaging Child Abuse I try to provide the most accurate information based on our imaging studies to the patient’s medical team so that the child can be treated as quickly as possible. I am fortunate to work with an incredible group of medical practitioners at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children who share my passion to provide the highest quality medical care to all children. I am a Nemours radiologist based in Wilmington, Del. at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. I grew up in a family with several close family members working in various fields of health care, who I looked up to as role models. I appreciated from them that joining a medical field not only brought the responsibility of staying on top of the most up-to-date science-based treatments, but also being able to relay this to patients and their families with great empathy and compassion. I used to work primarily with adults and branched out during my career into a pediatric setting, and have absolutely enjoyed working exclusively with children ever since. Children bring such hope, energy and joy, lighting up each encounter. Their current health and well-being is crucial to their growth into a healthy adulthood. It’s a rewarding and humbling privilege to have the opportunity to try and make a positive difference in these children’s and their families lives for the better. I am passionate about working with children and their families as well as our referring physicians to find the best imaging tools possible to most efficiently and accurately identify what’s going on. In this way, patients and family members, together with their clinicians, can make the best decisions of the most appropriate care for their children. My special interests include:  imaging of sports related injuries  musculoskeletal imaging As a radiologist who is also a parent, I try to step into the caregivers’ shoes when working with children and treat them as I would want my own family treated. I try to educate the patient and family so they understand what tests are being done and what the results mean so they can be knowledgeable as they move forward with the best possible care. I find inspiration in the motivation and optimism of my patients. Most kids I treat have complex medical needs or physical disabilities. I see my role as helpingeach child function to the best of his or her ability, removing barriers, and opening up opportunities for socialization and personal fulfillment. I want my patients to be able to enjoy the same ordinary and extraordinary life experiences as other kids. I had planned to become a general pediatrician until I fell in love with pediatric physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R). My father, a PM&R doctor, encouraged me to rotate through his subspecialty as a medical school rotation. I never could have anticipated that this residency experience would lead me to change my career path. Now, as an attending physician in pediatric PM&R, I take every opportunity to introduce residents and medical students to the field and train them. Most arrive here intending to pursue a career working with adult patients. After spending two months training alongside my colleagues and me, many have changed their career paths to focus exclusively on caring for kids. I build relationships with my patients by showing an interest in their lives outside of their medical needs. I talk with them and ask questions about things that are important to them, like their favorite toys, TV shows or activities. I try to see them for the unique human beings they are and build a sense of trust. Building a strong relationship helps me to better understand my patients and what is most important to them. This allows me to give the right support and help each one work toward reaching his or her goals and dreams. David Saul was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. He attended Drexel University for undergraduate studies in biology and premedical education. David also attended Drexel University's College of Medicine to obtain his MD. Subsequently, he completed his internship and residency in diagnostic radiology at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He completed a fellowship in pediatric radiology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He has worked as an attending radiologist in both private and academic practices, before joining Nemours in September 2019. I believe that children are uniquely deserving of our best care because they are innocent, vulnerable and often unaware or not fully aware of their disease. Being a sick kid can be terrifying, and I want to be there to help in some way. I also greatly appreciate and enjoy how often children can recover from seemingly insurmountable disease. Far from making me sad to see illness in a child, it makes me hopeful to think about his/her potential for health and wellness and to enjoy a full life after receiving appropriate treatment. I am driven by a sense of justice, and that the children we serve deserve our best. I care deeply that we provide care in the most up to date, efficient, honest and accurate way possible.  My medial interests include: Education Thoracic Imaging Cardiac Imaging Body Imaging Ultrasound MRI I try to lead by example, to give my best effort for every child, and take as much time as needed with each family that I encounter. I know that many of the families I see, by the time they arrive in my department, are having the worst day of their lives. I want to provide comfort, reassurance and a smile in those times of difficulty because I would want the same for my family. Dr. Saul is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Congenital Femoral Deficiency. He is also highly rated in 127 other conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Caudal Regression Syndrome, Spondylocarpotarsal Synostosis Syndrome, Scoliosis, Hypochondroplasia, and Angioplasty. I began my medical career as a practicing pediatrician in Pittsburgh. During those five years, I realized that I wanted to be the doctor who is instrumental in figuring out what is wrong. So I retrained with a fellowship in pediatric radiology. I treat children because I love kids and I feel a wonderful sense of accomplishment if I can make the life of a sick or injured child easier. In radiology, I am passionate about making a diagnosis as quickly and accurately as possible so a child can receive the proper treatment. Outside of work, I am passionate about my family, dancing, Broadway shows and sunny days. When I was a practicing pediatrician, I realized that the most important part of anyone’s care is a proper diagnosis, which is not always easy to ascertain. I try to make a difference by making the most accurate diagnoses possible. Dr. Bron is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Congenital Femoral Deficiency. Even at the start of my medical training, I knew I wanted to be in a field where I get to work with children. After my first child was born premature and required NICU-level care, that experience only intensified my desire to work with kids. Having a child requiring medical care is both scary and stressful. As a pediatric radiologist, my goal is to help alleviate those feelings for parents and children by providing the best radiology service and making it as kid friendly as possible. Pediatric radiology is a perfect fit for me. As a pediatric radiologist, I get to work as a consultant with many clinicians in different pediatric fields. Though radiologists are often behind the scenes, we play a vital role in diagnosing the problem, so that children can be treated and feel better. I am passionate about all areas of pediatric radiology including neuroradiology, musculoskeletal imaging and body imaging. I also work with all modalities including X-ray, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT and MRI. One of my roles as a radiologist is as a consultant, working with clinicians to ensure that we do the best test with the lowest radiation possible. As radiologists, we are always working to come up with new imaging techniques that can avoid or lower radiation and be more kid friendly. I care for children both at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital and the Nemours Deptford Specialty Care and Surgery Center. At our Deptford location, you may see me involved in fluoroscopy, ultrasound and X-ray. I also perform joint injections for MRI arthrograms at our Deptford location, many which are performed to evaluate sports injuries, joint pain or congenital abnormalities. Dr. Schenker is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Congenital Femoral Deficiency. She is also highly rated in 93 other conditions, according to our data. Her clinical expertise encompasses Osteoporosis-Pseudoglioma Syndrome, Spondylocarpotarsal Synostosis Syndrome, Caudal Regression Syndrome, Short Stature (Growth Disorders), and Gastrostomy. I grew up in China’s Hunan province as an active, athletic child. My mom was a physician and my dad was a medical school professor, so I had great role models. Today I’m a radiologist focusing on pediatric musculoskeletal and body imaging, with concentration on X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy (how things move inside the body). I am certified in diagnostic radiology and subspecialized in pediatric radiology by the American Board of Radiology. I have been working over 17 years, and remain an active member of the Radiological Society of North America and Society of Pediatric Radiology. I really like kids, and I’m glad to help whenever I can. I work closely with clinical teams to help make sure each child’s diagnosis is correct. I enjoy sharing my expertise with other physicians and learning from them. It’s great to get an understanding of how they approach a diagnosis. I think everyone should have access to quality healthcare. Nemours does because we treat all children regardless of their ability to pay. That’s important to me. I have a passion to be part of excellent medical care for children and do my best to provide the best services possible for each child. I believe in working as a team with the medical associates, patients and families to provide compassionate and high-quality care. My medical interest include: Ultrasound  Musculoskeletal imaging I will keep learning to improve my services with updated knowledge and advanced technique, and ensure each child receives the best care possible. Alicia McCarthy is a pediatric nurse practitioner with the Nemours Spine and Scoliosis Center and the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Program. I have known I wanted to work with children for as long as I can remember. Children are amazing — they bounce back from unbelievable odds and keep going, no matter what. Nursing combines my love of children and health. I think it’s important to work for children, who otherwise would not have a voice. I am passionate about working with children and families to maximize their functioning and quality of life, no matter what conditions or disorders they have. I am particularly passionate about working with children with chronic or complex medical disorders — every child deserves the best quality of life possible! I also love working with families to help navigate the healthcare system, and giving them resources they need to be successful. I have volunteered for many years at summer camps, including those for children with chronic medical conditions, or whose parents are sick. I also volunteer in a community garden that donates all food to local food banks. I’m proud to work at Nemours. We work with each patient and family as an individual, and treat them as if they are our own. I take that very seriously. I work with families to understand their concerns and answer every question. I strive to coordinate care so that families are not repeating information endlessly or going for needless appointments. I’ve also developed a mentoring program for spine and scoliosis families at Nemours. This program connects patients and families who are newly diagnosed with those that are more experienced in living with conditions of the spine. I’ve also developed numerous patient education materials so that families can reference the information we discuss in clinic once they are home. Finally, I’ve lectured on spinal care locally and nationally, and have conducted several research projects. What is the definition of Congenital Femoral Deficiency?

Congenital femoral deficiency (CFD) refers to a spectrum of congenital (present at birth) malformations of the thigh bone (femur) due to incomplete or abnormal development. CFD may affect one leg (most commonly) or both legs. Severity can range from minor shortening of the femur (appearing normal), to complete absence of much or all of the femur. Deficiency or instability of the hip and knee joint may also be also present. The underlying cause of CFD typically is not known, but it does not appear to be inherited. Taking the drug thalidomide during pregnancy can cause CFD and other limb deficiencies in an unborn child.

When should I see a Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctor in Delaware, US?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctor in Delaware, US?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctors in Delaware, US?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctors in Delaware, US?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctor in Delaware, US?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctor in Delaware, US?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctors in Delaware, US?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Congenital Femoral Deficiency doctor that offers video calls?
