Cytomegalovirus (CMV) antenatal infection, also known as congenital cytomegalovirus infection, is when a baby is born infected with the cytomegalovirus. While cytomegalovirus is a common virus, most infected individuals do not experience any symptoms. However, in some cases a pregnant woman can transmit cytomegalovirus to her unborn child, after which some infants born with cytomegalovirus antenatal infection may experience health problems or birth defects.
