I’m a retina specialist who takes care of patients who have problems with the back of the eye. When a patient comes to see me, I like getting to know them and their history, so that I can tailor their treatment. My patients come from a variety of different backgrounds, so I find that I often learn as much from them as they do from me. Everybody has a different story and I very much like to learn about the patients to whom I provide care. Outside of work, I like to spend as much time as possible with my family. I also enjoy cooking, playing sports and watching sports. I am a Duke vitreoretinal surgeon and Moorfields uveitis trained ophthalmologist, specializing in patients with complex medical and surgical problems of the back of the eye, known as the retina, as well as patients with inflammation in the eye or uveitis. I use the latest diagnostic and therapeutic methods along with a collaborative team effort with colleagues across Duke Eye Center and the Duke Rheumatology and Immunology division to develop the optimum treatment plans for patients with uveitis. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with the family, traveling, watching sports, and landscape photography. I am a retina specialist, and in this role, I treat patients who have problems with the back of the eye. My practice is focused on injection and laser-based treatment in the clinic, as well as complex surgical cases in the operating room. I treat conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular occlusion, macular edema, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, vitreomacular traction, secondary intraocular lens placement, and complex retinal detachments, among others. I truly enjoy the science behind treating retinal disease and helping patients optimize their visual potential. Many of the conditions I take care of require ongoing treatment and office visits, and one of my favorite things about my job is getting to know my patients and their families during these visits.
