I am a retina specialist, and in this role, I treat patients who have problems with the back of the eye. My practice is focused on injection and laser-based treatment in the clinic, as well as complex surgical cases in the operating room. I treat conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular occlusion, macular edema, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, vitreomacular traction, secondary intraocular lens placement, and complex retinal detachments, among others. I truly enjoy the science behind treating retinal disease and helping patients optimize their visual potential. Many of the conditions I take care of require ongoing treatment and office visits, and one of my favorite things about my job is getting to know my patients and their families during these visits. I think that my time in clinic drives my research and that the insights gained from my research keep me at the cutting edge of diagnosis and treatment strategies for my patients. Outside of work I spend as much time as possible outdoors with my wife and daughter. In whatever time is left I can be found exploring western North Carolina on my mountain bike.
