Dr. Eric R. Stevens

We provide exceptional care and compassionate service to optimize the vision of patients with retinal disease. Dr. Equi was raised in California and attended college at UCLA, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He began his work in ophthalmology while at UCLA, researching treatments for retinal diseases at the famous Jules Stein Eye Institute. He subsequently earned his M.D. at the prestigious University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Scripps-Mercy Hospital in San Diego before heading east to the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University to pursue his residency training in ophthalmology. Following residency, he returned to California to be a fellow in vitreo-retinal surgery at the Doheny Retina Institute, part of USC?s Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Equi was awarded the inaugural Heed Foundation Clinician-Scientist award in 2002, one of only two ophthalmologists in the country to receive that award. Following his fellowship, he returned to Johns Hopkins to serve as the Assistant Chief of Service of the Wilmer Eye Institute following in the footsteps of his colleagues, Drs. Arun Patel and Joel Pearlman. Dr. Equi has published papers and written chapters on treatments for infectious diseases of the retina, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration. He has been involved in several national clinical trials in the treatment of macular degeneration. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is Board Certified. Dr. Equi is an avid long distance runner and cyclist, having competed in marathons and triathlons, and he describes himself as a die-hard family man. Dr. Jacob has been with Royo Eye and Laser Center since 2009, working with Dr. Paris E. Royo for about 5 years prior to taking over the practice in 2013. He enjoys patient care and the ability to make a difference through surgery, keeping up to date with the latest procedures, practices and lasers. He also served on the ALTA Ophthalmologic Society committee for a couple of years as secretary and treasurer.Dr. Gabriel Jacob is very driven and passionate when it comes to eyes as he knew he wanted to become an Ophthalmologist at the age of 16 when he got his first pair of glasses and decided to apply for a job at LensCrafters. After working with the local Optometrist at LensCrafters, he realized he wanted to do more then just glasses and wanted to operate as he loved seeing patients post surgery and their joy. He applied and got accepted with a scholarship to Loyola University Chicago and is proud to be a Loyola graduate, with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Psychology and a minor in Biology and Neuro Science. Because of his great experience at Loyola University, he was motivated to get into Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine and thus obtained his medical degree and residency from there as well.When he is not working, Dr. Jacob loves watching sports with his family, especially the Bears and the Bulls as they are from his home town, Chicago. Dr. Jacob has been married for 16 years and has two children, a boy and a girl.
