Dr. Teresa M. O

Dr. O is a pediatric and adult facial plastic surgeon whose practice is two-fold: she is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment (medical and surgical) of hemangiomas and vascular lesions. She also manages all forms of facial paralysis.

She is co-Director of the Facial Nerve Center and a doctor in the Vascular Birthmark Institute of New York (VBINY) at Lenox Hill and Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospitals.

While working with Dr. Milton Waner at VBINY, she saw many children and adults with facial paralysis. This led to an interest and further training in facial nerve reanimation techniques at the Massachusetts Eye, and Ear Infirmary in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. O is involved in basic science and clinical research. She has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific journal articles and textbook chapters. She is also a peer reviewer for various specialty journals. Her research involves the pathogenesis of hemangiomas and the development of directed treatments. She is also involved in clincal research in facial paralysis.

Dr. O is active in teaching residents and fellows. She is a member of several specialty societies such as ISSVA (International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies), Sir Charles Bell Society (Facial nerve disorders), AMA (American Medical Association), and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. She serves on various committees at the Academy. She is board certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

What to expect:

You will be greeted by a warm and helpful office team. The waiting room is sun-filled and child and adult friendly. We are ideally situated at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital on the upper east side of New York City near bus and subway lines.

Dr. O approaches each patient as an individual. She will take a thorough history and physical exam. This will include a full head and neck examination with relevant imaging, and photography/video. If necessary, further investigative tests may be indicated, such as blood testing, MRI or CT imaging, or nerve conduction or electrical muscle studies.

Your case may be discussed at a multidisciplinary conference comprised of various specialties in order to discuss the best treatment plan. Our team includes diagnostic and interventional radiology, medicine, plastic and oculoplastic surgery.
