I chose a career in family medicine because I enjoy providing preventative health care and disease management to all ages. My approach to patient care is that of a partnership. I advise patients that my role as a primary care physician is to educate patients on current evidence-based guidelines for preventative health and for disease management. I want to ensure that patients are able to make an educated decision regarding their health care. My ideal vision of family medicine includes providing care to three generations, where I am the primary care provider to the grandparents, the parents, and the children. Understanding the dynamics of three generations of a family allows me insight into family medical history, family social dynamics, and family emotional stressors. This insight enhances my medical decision making for each individual in the family. I am married and have two children. We have two rescue dogs who keep us very busy. I spend most of my time outside of work with my family. I do prioritize exercise for my personal health maintenance. Dr. Smith is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Fainting. Her top areas of expertise are Sitosterolemia, Premature Ovarian Failure, High Cholesterol, and Glucocorticoid-Remediable Aldosteronism.

I am a cardiologist trained and experienced in preventive cardiology. I have served as the medical director of the Duke Cardiac Rehabilitation Program (formerly DUPAC) since 1994. I specialize in the prevention and treatment of heart disease risk factors before and after cardiac disease develops. I direct a program that uses the principles of balancing energy intake and expenditure to treat heart disease and metabolic diseases, such as diabetes. I also have an active practice for assessment and advice for the older athlete who wants to improve performance – whether he or she has heart disease or not. My research is directed at defining the best exercise regimen for the most benefit. Dr. Kraus is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Fainting. His top areas of expertise are Coronary Heart Disease, Heart Failure, Metabolic Syndrome, Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), and Heart Bypass Surgery.

I am a cardiologist. I see athletes across the wide spectrum of athletic abilities who are concerned about cardiac complications and how that may affect their training or athletic competing. Many athletes have heart disease, or are at risk for heart disease, and have problems such as arrhythmias or fainting spells. It is very gratifying to work with an athlete who has the same goals that I do for competition and fitness, and to help them realize that they can stay active in the midst of treating their condition. The sports clinic is a great example of why Duke is such a great place to come, because we have expertise in such a broad range of areas. If I need advice or support from another colleague, not only will I get guidance, but I can easily refer patients as necessary for further evaluation and management. Dr. Kontos is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Fainting. His top areas of expertise are Atrial Fibrillation, Heart Failure, Pulmonary Edema, and Atherosclerosis.

I am an interventional cardiologist who helps patients in the cardiac catheterization lab by performing procedures like inserting stents and pacemakers. I also provide care in general cardiology and follow patients with coronary disease, congestive heart failure, and atrial fibrillation.  I have spent more than 20 years at the Kernodle Clinic and helped establish and design its cath lab. I view my patients as family members and try to be conservative about when to intervene. I know there are always risks and drawbacks to any intervention, so I use good judgment to determine when a procedure is warranted. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my two children, playing golf and going on winter skiing trips with my family. I am excited about electrophysiology because it gives me the opportunity to improve patients' quality of life and allows patients to live longer in many cases. I ultimately went to medical school because of a passion for helping people, lifelong learning, and establishing meaningful relationships with my patients. I strongly believe in patient engagement and patient-centered decision making. Therefore, I believe that it is important to spend time educating patients and discussing all available treatment options. I encourage patients and their family members to ask questions so that I can help them understand their health. I offer medical therapy and catheter ablation therapy to patients with atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, and premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), and ventricular tachycardia. I also place transvenous pacemakers and defibrillators (ICDs), cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices, leadless pacemakers, and subcutaneous defibrillators. I also perform lead extractions. I have two children, and I enjoy cooking, as well as playing golf, tennis, and skiing. Dr. Pokorney is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Fainting. His top areas of expertise are Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia (PSVT), Atrial Fibrillation, Arrhythmias, Cardiac Ablation, and Pacemaker Implantation.

One of the main things I like about electrophysiology is fixing heart rhythm problems. I love it when patients are rid of a problem that they have had for a long time, and I can tell them they are cured. They can go do whatever they want and don’t have to worry about seeing a cardiologist again. A patient with a rapid heartbeat I’ve been seeing for about 10 years finally decided she wanted to have an ablation procedure. We talked about that a lot. She was very nervous. Finally, she decided to move ahead with the procedure. It only took about 90 minutes, and she was cured. She was very happy and couldn't believe that it was really gone. I practice exclusively at Triangle Heart Associates and Duke Regional Hospital, which provides easy and convenient access for patients. Dr. Donahue is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Fainting. His top areas of expertise are Arrhythmias, Cardiomyopathy, Atrial Fibrillation, Pacemaker Implantation, and Cardiac Ablation.

I’ve always enjoyed interacting with people, and I feel like it is a privilege to care for them at this level. I take pride in the fact that I can usually make people feel very comfortable. I also feel that as a physician I am able to empower my patients to take care of themselves. It’s a group effort. I really enjoy seeing children. I probably have one of the bigger pediatric populations in my practice. I enjoy seeing families and watching kids grow up. Before I started here, I was in private practice in Florida for more than five years. My wife and I moved back to the area when she was pregnant with our first child, because this is the area in which we wanted to raise a family. It’s a wonderful place for young families and children. What is the definition of Fainting?

Fainting is a brief loss of consciousness due to a drop in blood flow to the brain. The episode most often lasts less than a couple of minutes and you usually recover from it quickly. The medical name for fainting is syncope.

When should I see a Fainting doctor near Hillsborough, NC?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Fainting doctor near Hillsborough, NC?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Fainting doctors near Hillsborough, NC?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Fainting doctors near Hillsborough, NC?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Fainting doctor near Hillsborough, NC?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Fainting doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Fainting doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Fainting doctor near Hillsborough, NC?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Fainting doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Fainting doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Fainting doctors near Hillsborough, NC?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Fainting doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Fainting doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Fainting doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
