Dr. Michael T. Hernando

Dr Michael Hernando is the managing director of Morristown Surgical Associates and is also director of minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Morristown Medical Center. He is board certified in general surgery with more than 10 years of experience. He graduated cum laude from Cook College, Rutgers University, and was valedictorian of his class at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara and finished his medical school training at New York Medical College. His post graduate residency training was performed at Morristown Medical Center where he was awarded the Hughes Dougan Award for dedication to patient care and excellence in surgical technique, and twice awarded the Ames Filippone Chairman's Award for the resident who best exemplifies the high ideals, compassion, caring and style of leadership that characterize Dr. Filippone. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Hernando is dedicated to all aspects of general surgery including benign and malignant breast disease, as well as gastrointestinal disease including gallbladder, stomach, small intestine, colon and appendix. He is expert at diagnosing and treating all types of hernias including hiatal, ventral, incisional, groin hernias and complex abdominal wall hernias. His passion is with minimally invasive surgery, with dedication to his patients receiving the best results and quickest recovery. Dr. Hernando is a leader in the field of robotic surgery and is able to perform the most complex gastrointestinal and hernia surgeries robotically. He is able to perform single incision robotic surgery with virtually no scar. Outside of medicine, Dr. Hernando enjoys spending time with his wife and five boys. He enjoys physical fitness, tennis, golf, skiing, basketball and photography.
