I’m a primary care pediatrician at Nemours Pediatrics in Seaford, Delaware and I love what I do. I enjoy helping people feel better, and watching my patients grow up healthy and happy. You could say it runs in the family, because I’m married to a family practitioner, and we have three wonderful children of our own. I love treating kids! I am continuously amazed by their resiliency. Even in my medical training, I always felt connected to the children I cared for – and their parents – so I chose pediatrics as my medical career. I get tremendous personal satisfaction from helping ill children get better. One of my proudest moments was when a newborn I had resuscitated came in to the office for the first time for a routine wellness checkup. Every time I see my patients persevere in school or participate in an extra-curricular activity, I know I’m making a difference. Francis Ostrea, MD, is a primary care pediatrician based at Nemours duPont Pediatrics, Dover. He is a board-certified member of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Being a primary care pediatrician and a parent, Dr. Ostrea understands exactly what parents go through. He loves every day of his work. I enjoy seeing children grow up in front of my eyes, being a part of their lives. When you’re a primary care physician, you’re the go-to guy for anything that happens in your patient’s life. I enjoy that, and the interaction with my patients and their parents. Being a primary care pediatrician is my dream job, I enjoy every day of my work. I’m really passionate about what I do. I am proud of being in “the business of saving people’s lives.” This is what I want to do for the rest of my life.Having seen a lot of childhood asthma, I want to give my patients and their parents a full understanding of the disease. I believe that compliance with medications is dependent on understanding the whole disease process. For my adolescent patients, I know how awkward it must be for parents to talk to their own children about safe sex. I am a doctor who is willing to answer questions and give information in order to prevent unplanned teenage pregnancies. I am very thorough. I talk to my patients and their families, sitting down face-to-face and listening to their concerns. I don’t talk to parents with my back turned while typing in my computer. I’m a parent myself, so I understand what parents go through in their homes. I always treat my patient families as if it was my own child on the examination table. As a young child I was hospitalized several times. My own pediatricians were role models for me and influenced my decision to become a doctor. In medical school I had the chance to be mentored by Dr. Mohsen Ziai, MD, a world-renowned pediatrician who fueled my desire to go into general pediatrics. I feel that caring for the whole child is paramount and love this quote from the German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer: “The test of the morality of a society is what it does for its children.” While I practice general pediatrics, I particularly have an interest in infectious diseases and allergy/asthma. I also over the years have grown to enjoy treating youth athletes, having watched my own 3 adult children grow up playing various sports. Evidence-based care and safe care are the cornerstones of how I try to approach each patient, to ensure a quality outcome at the end of the day.  Each day some child makes me laugh and that simple, joyful interaction is what keeps me going after all these years. I fully embrace the Nemours goal to produce the healthiest generation of children and therefore make time to engage in advocacy, working with organizations and government to do things that improve their lives, health, and safety. I have served as an appointed member of several state and local committees and work groups, past president of the Delaware Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, past vice president of the Medical Society of DE and currently am active with the Government Affairs Committee of the Medical Society of Delaware, serving as its Vice Chair/Chair Elect. I have a strong connection to my church, Grace Church Dover, and serve on its Missions Committee. Dr. Sheahan is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Fifth Disease. What is the definition of Fifth Disease?

Fifth disease is caused by a specific virus that leads to a rash on the cheeks, arms, and legs.

When should I see a Fifth Disease doctor in Delaware, US?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Fifth Disease doctor in Delaware, US?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Fifth Disease doctors in Delaware, US?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Fifth Disease doctors in Delaware, US?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Fifth Disease doctor in Delaware, US?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Fifth Disease doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Fifth Disease doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Fifth Disease doctor in Delaware, US?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Fifth Disease doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Fifth Disease doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Fifth Disease doctors in Delaware, US?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Fifth Disease doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Fifth Disease doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Fifth Disease doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
