What are the current treatments for Generalized Resistance to Thyroid Hormone?
There is no cure for generalized resistance to thyroid hormone. Because individuals with this disorder have increased blood levels of T4 and T3 thyroid hormones, treatment is usually not necessary.
However, when treatment for goiter, rapid heartbeat, or tremor associated with generalized resistance to thyroid hormone are necessary, the thyroid hormone medication, liothyronine (T3) or the beta adrenergic blocker, atenolol may be prescribed. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder associated with generalized resistance to thyroid hormone is treated with the usual medications. Some individuals with generalized resistance to thyroid hormone may also be prescribed the thyroid hormone, levothyroxine (T4).
