
Overview
Dr. Shemmeri received her undergraduate degrees from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She received a Doctor of Pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. She completed resident training at North Shore University Hospital Long Island Jewish Medical Center and a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Albany Medical Center.Dr. Shemmeri also completed a clinical and research fellowship in thoracic and foregut surgery at the Swedish Cancer Institute and Medical Center, a critical care clinical pharmacy residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center and a minimally invasive thoracic surgery fellowship at the Brigham.Her clinical interests focus on minimally invasive thoracic surgery and foregut and her research interests include clinical outcomes in foregut, specifically achalasia and esophageal cancer.

Dr. Wain joined the Brigham in February 2023 as a Surgeon, and Associate Chief of Quality and Safety, both for the Thoracic Surgery Department. Before joining the Brigham, Dr. Wain was the chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery and the vice chairman of the Department of Surgery at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center He’s a member of various societies, including the American Thoracic Society, the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Wain received his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. He completed residency training in surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. After a surgical research fellowship at the City of Hope National Medical Center, he completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and Toronto General Hospital. Principal investigator for The Mentzer Lab, Dr. Mentzer is currently studying the adaptive processes involved in blood vessel growth (angiogenesis) and lung regeneration. Dr. Pommerening is a native Texan and graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. He received both his medical degree and general surgery training from the University of Texas McGovern Medical School in Houston, where he also completed a two-year clinical research fellowship and Master of Science degree in Clinical Research. He went on to complete a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) followed by a thoracic surgery fellowship at the Brigham. He is board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery, and he is a member of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS).Dr. Pommerening’s clinical practice is focused on the surgical and multidisciplinary care of patients with both benign and malignant thoracic and foregut diseases. His clinical interests and specialty include minimally invasive surgery, diagnostic and interventional airway procedures, thoracic oncology, and advanced foregut surgery. He is also interested in clinical outcomes research focused on designing and conducting clinical trials and quality improvement initiatives to advance evidence-based practice in thoracic surgery.
