What is the definition of Hydatidosis?
Hydatidosis, also known as echinococcosis or hydatid disease, is a parasitic tapeworm infection that causes cysts in organs such as the lungs, liver, and spleen, among others. Humans are infected through contaminated food, water, soil, or contact with infected animals, such as dogs and sheep.
What are the symptoms of Hydatidosis?
Symptoms of hydatidosis may not occur for years after infection until the cysts are large enough. Symptoms of hydatidosis depend on which organ is affected and can occur in the lungs, liver, spleen, kidneys, heart, bone, eyes, and brain. Symptom of hydatidosis may include fever, hives, abdominal pain, bile duct obstruction, rupture of the cyst, anaphylactic shock, and death.
