Learn About Hyperlipidemia Type 3

What is the definition of Hyperlipidemia Type 3?
Hyperlipidemia type 3 is an inherited condition that disrupts the normal breakdown of fats (lipids) in the body, causing a large amount of certain fatty materials to build up in the body. Some individuals never have symptoms of this condition. Symptoms usually do not appear unless a second genetic or environmental factor adds to increased lipid levels. Symptoms may include: yellowish lipid-filled bumps on the skin (xanthomas), inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), and a buildup of fat in the blood vessels (atherosclerosis). Hyperlipidemia type 3 may lead to the development of cardiovascular disease. This condition is caused by genetic changes in the APOE gene. The inheritance of this condition is considered to be complicated, as having genetic changes in the APOE gene often does not lead to the development of symptoms without the influence of other factors. Most people with symptoms of Hyperlipidemia type 3 have two genetic changes in the APOE gene, inherited in an autosomal recessive manner.

What are the latest Hyperlipidemia Type 3 Clinical Trials?
Impact of Genetic Testing and Motivational Counseling on the Adherence to Healthy Lifestyle and Hypolipidemic Therapy and Efficiency of Cascade Screening in Patients With Familial Hypercholesterolemia (GENMOTIV-FH)

Summary: To date, there are highly effective lipid-lowering drugs, the combination of which makes it possible to achieve the target level of LDL-C in most patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH). However, the effectiveness of treatment of FH patients strongly depends on adherence to lipid-lowering therapy and to the healthy lifestyle, as well as the detection of the disease and the therapy prescri...

The Advancing Cardiac Care Unit-based Rapid Assessment and Treatment of hypErcholesterolemia (ACCURATE) Study

Summary: ACCURATE will test the hypothesis that opportunistic genetic testing for Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH) in patients admitted to hospital with an acute coronary syndrome will increase the diagnosis of FH and will impact patient care and outcomes. The study will recruit patients admitted to hospital with an acute coronary syndrome, and research-based genetic testing will be conducted for known F...
