Dr. Evonne M. Morell
Overview
Evonne M. Morell, DO, is director of Inpatient General Pediatric Cardiology Services and director of Quality Improvement for General Cardiology at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She is also an assistant professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology. Dr. Morell earned her medical degree from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. She then completed a pediatric residency via the Fast-Track Program at Michigan State University, followed by a pediatric cardiology fellowship at UPMC Children’s Hospital. She served as chief pediatric cardiology fellow in her final year of this fellowship program. She then furthered her training through a one-year Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care fellowship at UPMC Children’s. Dr. Morell’s career has focused on acute care cardiology and complex congenital heart diseases including single-ventricle physiology. Since her appointment as an assistant professor of Pediatrics in 2011, Dr. Morell has transformed the inpatient general cardiology service at Children’s. She sought advanced training in quality improvement methodology, helped to develop a general cardiology quality improvement program at Children’s, and established herself as a local and national leader in quality improvement. Her current research focus is on quality improvement with projects focused on improving patient care in the acute care and outpatient settings. She is a member of the American Heart Association, the Pennsylvania Chapter of Osteopathic Physicians-District VIII, the Pediatric Acute Cardiology Care Collaborative, and the PAC3 Quality Improvement Subcommittee, as well as an executive member of the Pediatric Acute Cardiology Care Collaborative. Dr. Kreutzer has over 20 years of practice in congenital catheter intervention and directed the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at UPMC Children’s for 15 years. A native of Argentina, she received her medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires Medical School. She completed a clinical fellowship in cardiac pathology at Harvard Medical School-Boston Children's Hospital and an internship and residency in pediatrics at the University of Florida Affiliated Hospitals. She then completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the Harvard Medical School-Boston Children's Hospital. Dr. Kreutzer came to Pittsburgh from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Her main areas of academic interest include novel catheter/device technology, animal testing and clinical trials, prenatal cardiac catheter intervention, single ventricle variants, transcatheter therapies, transcatheter management of peripheral pulmonary artery stenosis, cardiac catheterization outcomes research and quality improvement, and transcatheter valve therapies. In addition to her clinical duties as leader of interventional cardiology at the Children’s Heart Institute, she has a strong academic and teaching record. She has authored more than 60 scientific publications and has served as guest reviewer for several journals, including Catheterization and Cardiovascular Intervention, Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, American Journal of Cardiology, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, among others. She has taught extensively internally, nationally, and internationally.
