Overview
My clinical interests are in the restoration of vision lost due to corneal or anterior segment diseases or conditions. These problems can be due to either congenital (inherited) diseases or problems following surgery or trauma. Each patient is a unique individual with unique problems and circumstances and is treated a such. My areas of research involve corneal transplantation techniques and outcomes as well as ocular reconstruction techniques.

During his ophthalmology residency, completed at the Cullen Eye Institute, Baylor College of Medicine, he served as Chief Resident during his final year of training. He completed his fellowship in cornea, external disease, cataract and refractive surgery at the University of Utah School of Medicine’s John. A. Moran Eye Center. Dr. Weikert’s research interests include biomedical optics, anterior segment imaging, intraocular lens technology, and wavefront applications in cataract and refractive surgery. He is the Residency Program Director at the Cullen Eye Institute, Baylor College of Medicine and the Medical Director of the Lion’s Eye Bank of Texas. He is a recipient of the Baylor College of Medicine Louis J. Girard Distinguished Alumni Award, the AAO Secretariat Award, the AAO Achievement Award, and has been listed in “The Best Doctors in America” on an annual basis since 2008.
