In addition to my work as an orthopedic surgeon, I help educate our next generation of physicians. I train orthopedic surgery residents during their pediatric rotations, and I am the fellowship director at Nemours, where orthopedic surgeons do extra training to learn the art and science of pediatric orthopedics. I have academic appointments at The University of Florida and The Mayo Clinic, present original research at national meetings, give lectures as an invited speaker to various medical groups, and serve on committees for multiple national orthopedic organizations. Some of the highlights of this work have been producing educational content for patients and their families that can be found on the websites of the Scoliosis Research Society, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and Nemours’ own KidsHealth. It’s such an incredible privilege for parents to allow me to treat their children. I learned early in my orthopedic training just how amazing children are, even in the face of serious illness. Their toughness, resilience and positive attitudes inspire me to be the best doctor I can be to help them and their parents manage their conditions. I’m passionate about making a difference in children’s lives, and I’m so proud to work for Nemours. I was raised in Bahrain and Holland before moving to the U.S., and served in the Navy in Operation Desert Storm. I’ve always been interested in athletics. In school I ran cross-country, played soccer and tennis, and was a diver for the swim team. My wife is an Occupational Medicine physician, and our daughter is an occupational therapist. I enjoy working with children and spending time with my patients and families. I always wanted to go into medicine and became interested in pediatric orthopedics after working with a professor with cerebral palsy, who also inspired me to specialize in that condition. I believe all children, regardless of financial means, should have the same opportunities for medical care when they need it. One of the reasons I joined Nemours is because it’s not-for-profit, and personal gain isn’t part of the equation. Dr. Loveless is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Knock Knees. His top areas of expertise are Congenital Femoral Deficiency, Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease (LCPD), Clubfoot, and Scoliosis.
Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida
I grew up in Canada and have been involved in sports all my life. At 14, I sustained an ACL injury downhill skiing. The doctors and therapists who helped me recover piqued my interest in sports medicine, which led me to a residency and fellowship at Harvard’s teaching hospitals: Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital. I think an active lifestyle is good for everyone, especially children and adolescents. It benefits their overall health, helps them forge friendships, fosters teamwork and sportsmanship, encourages goal-setting and discipline, and it’s fun. It’s a privilege to help young athletes overcome injuries and return to the activities they love. My work has allowed me to blend my love of medicine and travel. In 2008 I was one of six physicians covering a 250 kilometer foot race through the Sahara Desert. I’ve also enjoyed providing medical coverage for the Boston Marathon, Boston Ballet, the ATP Champions Tour in Boston and Miami, college hockey, as well as many triathlons and marathons. For many young athletes, activities help them define who they are — so when they’re injured, their routine is altered and they can feel cut off from their friends. This can lead to feelings of frustration and unhappiness. So my goal is to work with the child and their family to get them back to their normal routine as quickly and safely as possible. Dr. Gibson is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Knock Knees. Her top areas of expertise are Caudal Regression Syndrome, Spondylocarpotarsal Synostosis Syndrome, Scoliosis, and Concussion.
