Dr. R. Scott Stephens is an associate professor of medicine and oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is the Director of Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Critical Care at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. His expertise is in critical care medicine, with clinical and research focus on severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), acute respiratory failure after hematopoietic stem cell transplant, refractory circulatory shock, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for respiratory and circulatory failure. Dr. Stephens has extensive experience in the management of septic shock, neutropenic sepsis, life-threatening oncologic complications, and pulmonary embolism. In addition, he has expertise in cardiac surgical critical care, including the critical care of heart transplant, lung transplant, and ventricular assist device patients. Dr. Stephens is a highly regarded clinician and is a member of the Miller Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence at Johns Hopkins. He is a fellow of the American Thoracic Society (ATSF) and is an active member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization, and the American Physiologic Society.
