As a kid, I enjoyed science, particularly biology. I also had a strong desire to help people, which is why I chose medicine. Today, my expertise is in child abuse pediatrics, where I medically evaluate children for abuse or neglect, and help differentiate accidental from inflicted (abusive) injuries. During my first year in medical school, I was fortunate to get to know Dr. Lee Salk, a well-known child psychologist. His influence stimulated my interest in the physical and emotional well-being of children. From then on, after working with remarkably resilient children, I know I made the right choice. I’m passionate about preventing accidental and abusive childhood injuries. I like to help improve parenting skills and talk about effective and appropriate discipline. Dr. De Jong is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Malnutrition. His top area of expertise is Malnutrition.

I think there are few things that tug more at our collective heartstrings than seeing a sick child. I believe that there is an innate and powerful desire within all of us to help children recover from illnesses, injuries, trauma or any other painful experience, and to help them get back to their usual selves. As a general pediatrician that specializes in inpatient medicine, I take this responsibility seriously, and I get tremendous joy in helping children recover and thrive. Kids are so resilient and they bounce back from so much — it’s truly inspiring to be a part of it. I’m passionate about delivering high-quality medical care to every patient and family I interact with. I believe effective communication is the best way to reach that goal. I strive to listen attentively to my patients and their parents, so I may be in the best position to address their needs and concerns. I try to include parents in the medical decision-making process for their children, and to not create plans that are confusing or difficult to follow. Additionally, high-quality medical care requires effective communication between all members of the care team, so I make it a point to ensure that physicians, nurse practitioners, bedside nurses, social workers/case managers, students and all other members of the medical team are on the same page regarding each patient’s daily plan of care.  I also believe that all doctors (especially pediatricians) are lifelong teachers and lifelong students. I am passionate about teaching medical students and pediatric resident physicians during bedside rounds, lectures and small group discussions. I enjoy augmenting these traditional teaching methods with simulation-based training. I am a certified Clinical Simulation Instructor, and also teach courses in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) to physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers. I’m a firm believer that simulation-based training and experiential learning helps us anticipate problems, and be better prepared when an emergency truly arises. Practice makes perfect. Being in the hospital with a sick child is usually a frightening and stressful time for any family. I try to decrease some of that anxiety for our families by listening attentively and patiently, communicating effectively, and leading our multidisciplinary team of providers to work together and deliver exceptional care to each patient and family we are fortunate to meet. Dr. Solaiman is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Malnutrition. His top areas of expertise are Infant Botulism, Cerebral Hypoxia, Malnutrition, Hypochondroplasia, and Myringotomy.

I grew up in Connecticut, went to school in Massachusetts and Connecticut, and worked for a few years in New York City, Washington DC, and Baltimore. Now I’m getting to know my new, adopted state of Delaware. My own pediatrician inspired me to go into pediatrics, and the rest is history! Children are our present and future. The effect you have on a child now can alter their life, as my pediatrician did for me. Their endless potential is why I love working with kids.  I also truly enjoy being a resource and comfort for the families of my patients. Parents are often going through a tough time when they meet me, and I want to be a caring and competent point-person for them, so they feel confident in the care they receive while in the hospital. First and foremost, I’m passionate about healing children, while keeping them mentally and psychologically thriving. I look to care for the whole child, not just one “problem” or “disease.”  This includes advocating for children and families in the medical system, society and government. We need to provide a healthy environment for children to grow and thrive, and that begins and continues outside the hospital. Doctors have a powerful voice in society and I want to use mine to make the lives of our kids and families better and easier.   I also care about providing clear education and answers (as much as possible) to our families, and using whatever tools possible to help them understand the medical information we are providing them. I try to get my patients the best outcomes possible during their hospital stay, while keeping aspects of their life and personality intact. I try to provide comfort and explanations for families. I teach medical students and residents, not just science and medicine, but also these humanistic values.  I advocate for children with insurance companies, hospital committees, national organizations, and state and federal governments. I support policies that improve children’s and families’ lives. Dr. Barfchin is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Malnutrition. Her top areas of expertise are Infant Botulism, Malnutrition, Cerebral Hypoxia, and Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+).

What is the definition of Malnutrition?

Malnutrition is the condition that occurs when your body does not get enough nutrients.

When should I see a Malnutrition doctor in Delaware, US?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Malnutrition doctor in Delaware, US?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Malnutrition doctors in Delaware, US?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Malnutrition doctors in Delaware, US?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Malnutrition doctor in Delaware, US?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Malnutrition doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Malnutrition doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Malnutrition doctor in Delaware, US?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Malnutrition doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Malnutrition doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Malnutrition doctors in Delaware, US?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Malnutrition doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Malnutrition doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Malnutrition doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
