"Dr. Nick Chen strives to help his patients understand the full range of treatment options, not only for their disease, but for their overall quality of life. ""Cancer patients often suffer from decreased appetite, weight loss and a host of other mental and physical problems,"" Nick says. ""Their nutritional, mental and emotional states affect their immunity and overall outcome. It is quite clear that the treatment of cancer must involve an integration of all of these areas to be successful."" When medical doctors work side by side with naturopathic oncologists, practitioners of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, and mind-body specialists, Nick adds, the communication between team members is prompt, continuous and complete. ""The patient is the winner when everybody works together in a seamless integration of treatment,"" he says. Board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine with a Ph.D. in immunology, Nick has provided patient care and studied medicine on three continents. He served hematology fellowships at University Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium and Shanghai Medical University in China and earned his Ph.D. in immunology from the University of Iowa. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a fellowship in medical oncology at Moffitt Cancer Treatment Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida, one of the top comprehensive cancer centers in the nation. Nick joined the integrative cancer treatment team at Seattle Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center in 2002. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology and the American Medical Association. ""Surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, hormonal therapies and other medical treatments address the cancer head-on, while science-based complementary therapies help ease the side effects and improve the outcome,"" Nick explains. Mind-body support and patient empowerment are also vital, he says. ""We can use our thoughts and emotions to help the body heal faster. The more involved the patient is in his or her treatment program, the better the patient will feel mentally and emotionally. When one moves from victim to victor, it is much easier to visualize and achieve success.""". Dr. Chen is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL). He is also highly rated in 9 other conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Pancreatic Cancer, Familial Pancreatic Cancer, Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer, and Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer. What is the definition of Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL)?

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare subtype (6%) of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which is a cancer of the lymphatic system (immune system). The lymphatic system produces lymphocyte cells (B-cells and T-cells) that normally help protect the body against infection and disease and is composed of lymph nodes and blood vessels, the thymus, spleen, tonsils and adenoids, and some areas of the intestines. In mantle cell lymphoma, which grows slowly, the B-cell lymphocytes that are situated in an area of the lymph node known as the mantle zone develop abnormalities and become cancerous, causing enlarged lymph nodes, and eventually spreading widely throughout the lymphatic system and other areas of the body, such as the skin, small intestine, liver, bone marrow, and other organs. Mantle cell carcinoma mainly occurs in males over the age of 50. Mantle cell lymphoma is categorized by the following stages: Stage I – This stage of mantle cell lymphoma indicates early disease where the cancer is in only one lymph node region, one organ, or one area outside of the lymph node region. Stage II – This stage of mantle cell lymphoma represents locally advanced disease in which the cancer has spread (metastasized) to more than one lymph node region above or below the diaphragm or has spread to one organ or one area outside of the lymph node region. Stage III – In this stage of mantle cell lymphoma, the cancer has spread (metastasized) to lymph node regions both above and below the diaphragm, and possibly the spleen or an organ or other area of the body. Stage IV – In this stage of mantle cell lymphoma, the cancer has spread (metastasized) widely throughout one or more organs or areas of the body and may or may not involve lymph nodes. Mantle cell lymphoma is further described by either A (no systemic symptoms) or B (significant systemic symptoms, such as persistent fever, unexplained weight loss, and drenching night sweats). An additional category E indicates that the cancer has spread (metastasized) to one organ outside of the lymphatic system.

When should I see a Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctor near burien, WA?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctor near burien, WA?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctors near burien, WA?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctors near burien, WA?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctor near burien, WA?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctor near burien, WA?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctors near burien, WA?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
