I’m a former high school teacher turned doctor. I made the move because I realized that I could make a real difference in the lives of children through medicine. Today, I treat children with a wide range of thyroid, hormone, and other endocrine disorders. I’m married, with two grown children, and I’m an avid movie fan. I taught high school for three years before going to medical school and becoming a pediatric endocrinologist. I like helping people and soon learned that the best way to accomplish that is to concentrate on each individual patient as I see them. It’s very satisfying when I can provide the correct diagnosis and treatment for the child, and relief for the child’s family. I am passionate being a parent and sharing my knowledge with students who are training to become doctors. I enjoy mentoring our residents who are interested in pursuing a career in pediatric endocrinology. I’m a proud father of two with two on the way. Being a dad has opened a new door in my life — it’s helped me realize even more how special children are and what family means. I enjoy spending time with family, doing anything outdoors and watching sports. I’m originally from the Bronx, but grew up in Florida and am a lifelong Florida Gators fan. When I was in high school, my older sister was diagnosed with a rare form of pediatric cancer. It required her to get specialized treatment. She at the time was 18 and was looked up to by all the other pediatric patients as a role model, and sometimes even as a babysitter. Her impact on those kids made me want to do something for kids, too. I’m passionate about making sure that children can still experience life as children regardless of their circumstances, location or sickness. I think it’s important to help kids maintain a sense of innocence and fun throughout the process of something as serious as open-heart surgery. I try to make a difference by actively listening to patients and families, offering continued support, having a willingness to research new therapies, and providing seamless communication with primary care providers. I think it’s very important to provide constant feedback and communication for families and involve them in decision-making. Dr. Luceri is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Mixed Gonadal Dysgenesis. Nemours Children's Hospital, Delaware
I completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology in which I primarily worked with adult patients, however I still felt connected to the younger women and adolescents that came to our clinic. As I was initially torn between pursuing a career in pediatrics or OB/GYN as a medical student, I found that the field of pediatric and adolescent gynecology allowed me to pursue both of these interests. And I love working with children and teens — they are resilient and full of energy, which is often contagious. I’m passionate about empowering girls and teens to make healthy choices through crucial moments in their youth by providing them with useful information to help in guiding those decisions.Outside of work, I am passionate about culinary experiences, travel and spending time with my family. I believe in treating my patients in a manner in which I would want my own family members to be treated. I try to be nice to everyone I meet, from coworkers to patients and their families. I also believe in providing comprehensive care for girls and teens — in a non-judgmental, friendly and confidential manner. Dr. Patel is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Mixed Gonadal Dysgenesis. I enjoy being a physician, taking care of the kids and the kidneys and helping families in their medical journeys, no matter how intense or mild and regardless of the outcome. These families trust us and our opinions with their children and keep faith in what we say and recommend. This whole process is very humbling and gratifying at the same time. I was drawn to pediatrics because of my observations noting the resilience, the sincerity and honesty in children’s responses to various life stressors, including diseases. Their resilience to both the psychological and physical demands and stresses of illness never stopped surprising me. And then, at the end of the journey, their ability to recover and bounce back has continued to be the greatest satisfaction for me. I am most passionate about bringing the most up-to-date methods of medical care to all my friends (patients) regardless of their background, socio-economic status, culture or geographical challenges. I feel that our job is to eliminate the discrepancies in access to medical care and treatment to the best of our abilities, simply because there is no point in having a solution for a problem, no matter how magical it might be, if the solution cannot be applied to everyone in need of that solution. I try to make a difference by being a good listener. I give my best effort to listen well and to understand what is being told to me. It is my first goal that my friends and their families will feel that they were given enough time to explain their course and concerns. And following that, I try my best to interpret the information given and come to conclusions. Then, I share my thoughts, outcome possibilities and our approach plan with honesty so that both my friends and their families have an understanding of their condition. Without sugar-coating or tap-dancing around the topic, I try to give my best explanation with the information available, sharing with them that the given opinion may always change, to the worse or better, as more information flows in. Dr. Evan Graber is a board-certified pediatrician who specializes in pediatric endocrinology. He has authored several papers about endocrine disorders. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Osteopathic Association, the Pediatric Endocrine Society and the Endocrine Society. I worked a lot with children throughout high school and college and I have always felt like I establish a good rapport with children and their families. I love coming to work every day.Endocrinology always interested me because it’s a field that allows a physician to follow a patient from childhood until he or she “graduates” to adult medical care. It’s really important for me to be able to see these kids grow and succeed, as well as being able to form a relationship with their families. I also enjoy the problem-solving aspect of endocrinology, where I can put the pieces of the puzzle together to get a diagnosis and hopefully improve my patients’ quality of life. Every child is different, every family is different, and I like to be able to personalize medical care. I also think establishing a dialogue with families is very important when it comes to providing good patient care. I am passionate about advocating for my patients. It’s amazing to me that in 2015, there is still a lot of misunderstanding about how to handle conditions like diabetes —mostly from community members who might interact with kids with diabetes. They’re scared of the condition because they’re not familiar with the care involved with diabetes treatment the way the families are. I think it’s important to make people comfortable with it, and help them understand that kids with diabetes can live like everyone else, and that there are set protocols that we teach children and families — there’s nothing to be scared of. When I describe diabetes to children I explain that they’re just like everyone else, they just have to do a little “extra.” I think it’s important to spread that message. I try to keep the lines of communication open between the families I treat and me. I want my patients to understand why I’m doing a given test. I find that families are more willing to discuss options when they understand their care, and they appreciate when I discuss why I’m choosing a certain treatment. It results in a better relationship with the family, and that improves patient care.I also try to make myself as accessible as I can. I’ll call families with test results, and will make time to see families if they need to come to the hospital to discuss things with me personally. I’ll advocate for my patients with insurance companies or pharmacies to get medications cleared. I want my patient families to know that I’ll work with them to make sure they get the best care possible. Dr. Graber is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Mixed Gonadal Dysgenesis. His top areas of expertise are Short Stature (Growth Disorders), Familial Short Stature (FSS), Idiopathic Short Stature (ISS), Precocious Puberty, and Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).
