I was born in India to a family of doctors, so I did not have to look far for inspiration. I’m married to a pediatric cardiologist, also with duPont Hospital for Children, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I have every day to improve lives for kids and their families. As a father and surgeon, I have a soft spot for helping children in any way I can. It’s a privilege to be able to improve their lives even if there are challenges. I love to see kids getting back to enjoying life to its fullest and being able to help people deal with difficult issues. One of my proudest professional moments was the day I walked into the operating room and had the privilege to start surgically caring for children. I’m still passionate about my work and the opportunities I have every day to improve the lives of kids, one child at a time. The children I treat have serious medical problems, and it takes a whole team of professionals, working in lots of related medical and sociological fields, to make a difference in their lives, and the lives of their families. It’s an honor to be part of that team. At the end of the day, it’s all about the kids. Dr. Thacker is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). Both of my parents were in the medical field and strongly influenced the direction of my career. I became a physical therapist, which I enjoyed immensely, but I thought I could make a different contribution to patient care by becoming a physician. In radiology, we are part of the medical team that helps diagnose or exclude an illness and we help to direct the course of our patient’s treatment. Working with children is an amazing experience. Kids are so resilient and bounce back from all types of difficult situations. They each have such a unique perspective and we try our best to tailor our interactive imaging procedures to the child. Sometimes this involves providing anatomy lessons to teen patients, other times it involves just “getting it over with.” We aim to make our imaging procedures as interesting and as comfortable as possible. My areas of interest include: Pediatric Body Imaging  Fetal Imaging Child Abuse I try to provide the most accurate information based on our imaging studies to the patient’s medical team so that the child can be treated as quickly as possible. I am fortunate to work with an incredible group of medical practitioners at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children who share my passion to provide the highest quality medical care to all children. I’ve always enjoyed puzzles and the satisfaction once a puzzle is completed. That is one reason that attracted me to the field of pediatric neurology, specifically epilepsy. It’s heart-warming when the puzzle pieces fit together and I’m able to help my patients understand their neurological disorder so we can work as a team to find the best treatment plan. I love working with children because they are honest and resilient. When they smile and laugh, the world just lights up. I chose my field of pediatric neurology because of my fascination with the brain, in particular the plasticity of a young brain where timely treatment can have an impact on the child’s cognitive future. I’m passionate about helping my patients and their families attain the best quality of life, and to achieve this requires a trusting partnership and teamwork between my team, my patients and their families.  I have special interest in the treatment of intractable epilepsy, and am very familiar with the use of dietary therapies, neurostimulation and epilepsy surgery in the treatment of epilepsy. Few people know a child better than the child’s caretaker. So I always try to listen and work together as a team with my patients and their caretakers. I strive to stay up-to-date with the latest innovations and treatment options to provide my patients the best care possible so they can live life to its fullest. I really enjoy working with children. It helps to ground me and remind me every day of why I entered medicine in the first place. Each child has their own unique way of interacting with the world and this makes each of my patients special. I also really enjoy it when I get a chance to see my patients grow up.  My favorite is when my patients come to my office after their procedures more comfortable and happier than they were before. I love to restore function and form to my patients. I take great care with each procedure to restore my patients. My goal is to give each of my patients the best chance to heal and return to normal or, when needed, improved function. My goal is to meet each patient and their family where they are and acknowledge their needs. I work to tailor my interactions with my patients and their families to make them as comfortable as possible. This may mean not speaking or making eye contact with a nervous toddler while talking with their family. At other times it means having a long conversation and answering many questions from a curious teen or preteen. I want both my patients and their families to leave my office feeling like they are in good hands and have spoken with a doctor that understands them. I’m a radiologist at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital and started in 2020. Previously I had worked in the U.S. Air Force as an active duty doctor in San Antonio, Texas. Working with children is one of the most rewarding aspects of medicine. Children and families are very appreciative and pediatric radiology is an area of radiology where I think I can make the most difference in the lives of patients. My goal each day is to make a child’s and their family’s experience with radiology as positive and welcoming as possible, while also providing the best diagnostic imaging services that I can for our referring clinicians. I aim to treat my patients exactly how I would want my own sons to be treated. I try to lead by example and to make the radiology patient experience the best it can possibly be for our patients and their families. My mother was an X-ray tech, so I was exposed (pun intended) to medicine and imaging at an early age. I like working with people, especially children, and in school I was a science and math nerd. Medicine was a natural fit, and imaging gave me the chance to work with many different medical fields. Although I began my career in general radiology working with both adults and children, when the opportunity arose to work at Nemours exclusively with children, I took it. I appreciate the opportunity to help improve children’s health and welfare. Diagnostic radiology is an interesting field in that, like a detective, we are given a set of clues such as the patient’s symptoms, past history and findings from their physical exam, and then we use imaging tools to try to figure out the problem. We try to work efficiently so that once the problem is identified, proper treatment can begin as soon as possible. In this way we are helping the doctors caring for the patient, as well as the patients themselves. I love using the advanced technology available at Nemours to arrive at the most accurate and timely diagnosis possible to help our patients. My special medical interests include: Cardiac imaging Female reproductive tract imaging Fetal imaging X-rays, CAT scanning and fluoroscopy all use ionizing radiation, which is a concern in children. As radiologists, it is our responsibility to design our imaging procedures that use radiation so that the least amount of radiation possible is used, while still getting the information needed from the examination. We have department-wide safety procedures and tracking to make sure that our examinations are safe across the board. Specifically, I have deep exertise and fellowship training in ultrasound, MRI and CT scanning, as well as additional training in cardiac CT. I grew up in the New York City area. As a child, I was something of a science geek. I enjoyed applying what I learned to real life situations. As a pediatric cancer specialist, I always focus on helping kids with cancer and brain tumors enjoy the best possible quality of life. I have tremendous respect for the children in my care. Although most are very sick, they handle adversity amazingly well. They don’t complain and just want to be done with treatment so they can go on with their lives. I try to make a difference through hope and healing. The fact that Nemours is so active in cancer research means we have access to experimental treatment options that offer real hope for a cure. Just as important, we do everything we can to make a terrible process less terrible by alleviating any suffering. What is the definition of Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1)?

Neurofibromatosis-1 (NF1) is an inherited disorder in which nerve tissue tumors (neurofibromas) form in the:

    • Upper and lower layers of the skin
    • Nerves from the brain (cranial nerves) and spinal cord (spinal root nerves)

When should I see a Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctor in Delaware, US?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctor in Delaware, US?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctors in Delaware, US?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctors in Delaware, US?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctor in Delaware, US?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctor in Delaware, US?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctors in Delaware, US?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
