
Overview
Joseph Patrick Scollan, M.D., is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity conditions at Orlin & Cohen. He treats all conditions of the arm, including fractures, arthritis, tendon disorders, sports injuries, and nerve compression or damage. He has completed advanced training in post-stroke spasticity and amputee care. He is skilled in joint replacement, minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques, and microvascular surgery for the upper extremity. He develops a personalized approach to each patient and welcomes patients of all ages. Dr. Scollan is focused on understanding patient goals and creating a collaborative plan to help restore their function.
Having spent much of his childhood in Montauk, Dr. Scollan is committed to bringing expert-level orthopedic upper extremity care back to the East End. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, studying biology and German, in which he is fluent. He received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic. He pursued subspecialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery at the prestigious OrthoCarolina Hand Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Dr. Scollan practices and contributes to evidence-based, compassionate care. He has authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications and textbooks on orthopedic procedures and patient outcomes. Outside of work, you would find him with his family, writing poetry, playing soccer, and teaching his daughters how to fish.
