This study considered patients with pleural infection (infection of the thin, fluid-filled spaces in the lungs) in order to analyze the safety and effectiveness of early medical thoracoscopy (diagnostic procedure involving minimally invasive surgical insertion of a thin, lighted scope through the chest; MT) versus intrapleural fibrinolytic therapy (insertion of a chest tube to dissolve materials in the thin, fluid-filled spaces in the lungs; IPFT) as treatment options.
