Raised in Illinois, she completed her undergraduate studies in anthropology and chemistry at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and with highest honors as a James Scholar and Bronze Tablet honoree. She received her medical degree and completed her internship in Internal Medicine from the University of Illinois in Chicago. She then went on to complete her dermatology residency at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where she also had the honor of serving as chief resident during her final year.
