Condition:
Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) in Children with Pulmonary Artery Hypertension
Journal:
Texas Heart Institute journal
Treatment Used:
Transcatheter Closure
Number of Patients:
33
Published —
January 20, 2021
This study investigated whether transcatheter device closure of patent ductus arteriosus (hole in heart; PDA) is safe in children with pulmonary artery hypertension (high blood pressure).
Condition:
Preterm Infants
Journal:
Pediatrics
Treatment Used:
High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) vs Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (NCPAP) or Nasal Intermittent Positive-Pressure Ventilation (NIPPV) After Extubation
Number of Patients:
372
Published —
November 20, 2020
This study compared the effectiveness and safety of high-flow nasal cannula (used to give oxygen at a high rate; HFNC) versus nasal continuous positive airway pressure (nonsurgical treatment that provides a steady flow of air to the lungs through the nose; NCPAP) or nasal intermittent positive-pressure ventilation (a form of noninvasive ventilation during which patients are exposed intermittently to higher levels of airway pressure, along with nasal continuous positive airway pressure through the same nasal device; NIPPV) after extubation (removal of a previously inserted tube) in preterm infants.
Condition:
Borderline Left Heart Hypoplasia
Journal:
Journal of cardiothoracic surgery
Treatment Used:
Half-turned Truncal Switch Operation after Single Ventricle Palliation
Number of Patients:
1
Published —
October 10, 2020
The study researched the safety and effectiveness of a half-turned truncal switch operation for single ventricle palliation for borderline left heart hypoplasia.
Condition:
Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)
Journal:
Turk Kardiyoloji Dernegi arsivi : Turk Kardiyoloji Derneginin yayin organidir
Treatment Used:
Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen
Number of Patients:
86
Published —
September 21, 2020
This study determined whether combining acetaminophen with ibuprofen is more effective than the individual use of these drugs to treat patent ductus arteriosus (hole in heart; PDA).
Condition:
Patent Ductus Arteriosus
Journal:
Indian heart journal
Treatment Used:
Large Occluders
Number of Patients:
36
Published —
June 15, 2020
In this study, researchers evaluated the outcomes of off-label use of large occluders for the closure of patent ductus arteriosus.
Condition:
Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA)/Interruption of the Aortic Arch (IAA)
Journal:
Journal of cardiothoracic surgery
Treatment Used:
Single-Stage Repair with Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) Closure, Reconstruction of Aortic Arch and Arterial Switch Operation
Number of Patients:
1
Published —
June 13, 2020
This article reviewed the case of a patient with combined transposition of the great arteries (heart defect in which the two main arteries leaving the heart are reversed; TGA) and interruption of the aortic arch (heart defect in which the aorta is not completely developed; IAA) treated with single-stage repair with ventricular septal defect (hole in the heart) closure, reconstruction of aortic arch (the part of the aorta between the ascending and descending aorta) and arterial switch operation (operation in which surgeons redirect the flow of blood through abnormal hearts).
Condition:
Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) in Elderly Patients
Journal:
Journal of interventional cardiology
Treatment Used:
Transcatheter Closure
Number of Patients:
33
Published —
May 16, 2020
The aim of this study was to analyze periprocedural and one-year follow-up results of transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in elderly patients.
Condition:
Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Journal:
Zhonghua er ke za zhi = Chinese journal of pediatrics
Treatment Used:
Pulmonary Surfactant
Number of Patients:
92
Published —
May 13, 2020
In this study, researchers evaluated the outcomes of minimally invasive pulmonary surfactant administration for premature newborns with neonatal respiratory distress syndrome.
Condition:
Coarctation of Aorta (CoA) in Adolescents and Adults
Journal:
Interactive cardiovascular and thoracic surgery
Treatment Used:
Surgical Repair
Number of Patients:
24
Published —
March 30, 2020
This study evaluated outcomes for surgical repair in adolescents and adults with coarctation (narrowing) of the aorta (CoA)
Condition:
Growth of Preterm Infants
Journal:
PloS one
Treatment Used:
Breast Milk and Individualized Fortification
Number of Patients:
0
Published —
March 28, 2020
This study analyzed the macronutrients present in human milk and the correlation with the growth of in-hospital preterm infants.
Condition:
Inadequate Breathing at Birth
Journal:
The Cochrane database of systematic reviews
Treatment Used:
Sustained Versus Standard Inflations
Number of Patients:
1467
Published —
March 19, 2020
In this study, researchers compared the effectiveness of sustained versus standard inflations during neonatal resuscitation due to inadequate breathing at birth.
Condition:

Published —
March 03, 2020
This study compared the mortality (death) and morbidity (diseased state) of early versus late surgical ligation (surgical closure) of patent ductus arteriosus (heart defect that’s present at birth where a vein that normally closes at birth, the ductus arteriosus, stays open; PDA) in preterm or very-low-birth-weight (VLBW) infants.
