Duke Innovative Pain Therapies At Brier Creek
I’ve practiced interventional pain and musculoskeletal medicine for the past 20 years, and re-joined Duke in 2010 to build a program that sheds new light onto the treatments for nerve and arthritis pain. I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with many talented clinicians and researchers in the United States and Europe, allowing us to build a program in the Center for Translational Pain Medicine that moves beyond traditional pain medications and avoids many of their risks and complications. Our treatments center around the application of regenerative therapies that promote the active resolution of inflammation and pain for several arthritic conditions. I find it extremely rewarding to watch patients progress during their treatment course and meet their goals. I’m currently the Division Chief for Pain Medicine, a member of Duke’s Center for Translational Pain Medicine, Director of Regenerative Pain Therapies, and serve on the Editorial Board of Pain Medicine. Dr. Buchheit is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Phantom Limb Pain. His top areas of expertise are Phantom Limb Pain, Chronic Pain, Acute Pain, and Neuralgia.

Office
I am the interim chief of the pain medicine division and medical director of the Duke Raleigh Pain Clinic and have been in the clinical practice since 2007. Prior to joining Duke, I practiced at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, and the University of Virginia, serving as both clinic director and director of the pain medicine fellowship. I enjoy practicing pain medicine because of the close interaction with patients who may not always have a clearly identified reason for the pain and suffering they experience. I take a patient-centered approach to care and focus on achieving functional improvement goals and decreasing pain and suffering. Often, this involves multimodal therapies, such as therapy, medications, and interventional procedures. Outside of work, I enjoy outdoor activities with my family. Our favorites are soccer, skiing, hiking, camping, and bicycling. Dr. Vorenkamp is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Phantom Limb Pain.
