I have a passion for caring for men with prostate cancer and helping them and their families make the best treatment decisions. I am nationally and internationally recognized as a prostate cancer expert and have performed more than 2,000 radical prostatectomies both at Duke and formerly at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. I specialize in the nerve-sparing technique of surgery affording the best chance for sexual recovery. I have more experience with this small incisional open hands-on nerve-sparing operation than any surgeon in the Southeastern United States and am among the 10 most experienced surgeons using this technique in the United States. In addition to surgery, I have extensive experience managing men who have an elevated PSA and perform a gentle prostate biopsy using very liberal doses of local anesthesia. Our team also offers management of men who elect active surveillance for their early stage prostate cancer and are sensitive to men's needs regarding management of temporary urinary and sexual dysfunction related to prostate cancer treatments. We have a very experienced nursing team and a very experienced physician assistant who greatly assists in comprehensive and compassionate care. Dr. Moul is rated as an Elite provider by MediFind in Prostatectomy. His top areas of expertise are Prostate Cancer, Familial Prostate Cancer, Enlarged Prostate (BPH), Prostatectomy, and Orchiectomy.

Every day, my goal is to take the best surgical care of my patients' kidney or prostate cancer by offering the most up-to-date minimally invasive surgical treatments, while making sure that their experiences and outcomes at Duke Health are top-notch! As we look at the scans together and discuss biopsy results, it is important to me that I spend all of the time that my patients and their families need to clearly understand their diagnosis as well as all treatment options, so that we can make joint decisions about next steps and their treatment plan. Many of my patients are referred from all over the country to seek highly specialized urology care, including nonsurgical focal cryotherapy for prostate cancer, robotic surgery for prostate cancer, or robotic surgical removal of their kidney tumor called a partial nephrectomy, among other treatments, with our multidisciplinary, collaborative team. I always reassure and share my positive outlook with my patients as we navigate the health system together. My patients know that, as their physician, I will be their champion and advise them and guide them through their treatment. We are in this together. Prior to arriving at Duke, I was faculty at UT Southwestern where I had a dual appointment at the North Texas VA for 10 years. During this time, I was one of the highest volume robotic VA surgeons treating veterans with urologic cancer in addition to my clinic practice at UTSW. I joined the Urology department at Duke in 2024. At Duke, I have continued my focus on urologic oncology, specifically prostate, bladder and kidney cancer. I have a particular interest in prostate cancer. I was one of the earliest adopters of a novel surgical technique termed the Retzius Sparing Prostatectomy, which allows for the earlier return urinary control. I have further adopted a novel technique for the treatment of localized prostate cancer known as irreversible electroporation (IRE). This technique is a form of focal therapy for carefully selected patients. The advantages of IRE include less urinary and sexual side effects than conventional prostate cancer treatments. In addition, my clinical expertise includes advanced robotic reconstruction of the upper urinary tract. These procedures involve using segments of bowel or buccal grafts (inner lining of the cheek) to reconstruct damaged ureters. Dr. Gahan is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in Prostatectomy. His top areas of expertise are Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC), Enlarged Prostate (BPH), UPJ Obstruction, Nephrectomy, and Prostatectomy.

I am a urologic oncologist who is specifically trained in the surgical management of cancer. As a result of my fellowship and training, I feel very comfortable handling complex cancer cases. My patients are my favorite part of my job. I feel it’s incredibly important to make a connection with the patient and listen to them. It’s an amazing privilege to be able to take care of another human being and an honor to operate on someone. Surgery is a unique specialty, it’s a direct invasion of a person’s body and they are putting their trust in you. Duke is an amazing place. My goals are to develop and provide treatments that prolong and improve quality of the lives of patients with aggressive prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicular cancer. This work involves the direct care of patients in the clinic and clinical research involving the development of new therapies in clinical trials. I devote over half of my time to understanding how prostate cancer spreads and resists therapies, as well as methods of measuring this biology in patients, which may lead to improved therapies designed to block this process. Outside of work, I have a busy family life with three children, and a wife who is a Duke pediatrician. I enjoy playing soccer and hiking. I find the reconstructive aspect of urologic surgery the most exciting and challenging from a strategic and surgical perspective. Reconstructive urology provides an opportunity to help improve and to restore function as well as aesthetics for the patient who has endured injury, cancer, previous surgical complications, or congenital conditions. The uniqueness of each case poses a tactical and a surgical challenge, requiring a highly individualized and carefully planned and executed surgical approach to address the problem and underlying anatomical and medical cause. Within the emerging subspecialty of reconstructive urology, I focus on complex urethral stricture disease utilizing anastomotic and substitution urethroplasty; management of upper urinary tract obstruction; urinary fistula repair; prosthetic urology including penile implants for erectile dysfunction, as well as artificial urinary sphincters and minimally invasive slings for male stress urinary incontinence; penile reconstruction for Peyronie’s disease; and a comprehensive approach to male sexual health and male wellness. Dr. Lentz is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in Prostatectomy. His top areas of expertise are Stress Urinary Incontinence, Urinary Incontinence, Erectile Dysfunction (ED), Prostatectomy, and Ureteroscopy.

I specialize in the care of patients with urologic cancers – mainly prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer and testicular cancer. A cancer diagnosis is one of the scariest things that can happen to someone. For many of our patients, they don’t necessarily feel different or look different, but they are scared to death. The most important thing you can get from Duke is real understanding of your particular case and what your options are. Knowledge is so reassuring and empowering for patients, especially those recently diagnosed with cancer. When you’re first diagnosed, you have to put your trust in a care team, and that’s hard to do if you don’t already know them. As the largest cancer center in North Carolina, Duke has great reputation and experience, which helps many patients chose Duke for their care. But we grow and develop our trust with patients because of who we are as people and how much expertise and care we bring to each case. Dr. George is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in Prostatectomy. His top areas of expertise are Prostate Cancer, Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC), Familial Prostate Cancer, Nephrectomy, and Orchiectomy.

I am a urologic oncologist who specializes in the diagnosis and surgical management of genitourinary malignancies. I have a special interest in providing care for patients with prostate cancer but also provide care for patients with kidney and bladder cancers. I have extensive training in image-guided fusion prostate biopsy and employ this technique to ensure the most accurate cancer diagnosis possible. Many urological cancers do not require surgical intervention and can be safely managed with active surveillance. When treatment is necessary, I use minimally-invasive surgical approaches whenever possible to expedite recovery and optimize quality of life. These include focal therapy for prostate cancer as well as robotic surgical removal of the prostate, kidney, and bladder. I am a firm believer in the importance of patient education as this empowers my patients to make care decisions that align with their personal values. Listening to my patients and confirming their understanding of their cancer diagnosis ensures a clear line of communication and allows us to work together towards treatment. While I treat many urologic conditions, I have advanced training in minimally-invasive robotic treatments of common urologic issues, such as prostate enlargement, prostate cancer, kidney cancer, and blockages of the ureters. I recognize the sensitive nature of many urologic conditions and always treat patients the way I want to be treated myself. I practice with an emphasis on providing the highest quality care while also providing the shortest recovery and best functional outcomes possible. For example, during prostate removal, my techniques are focused on quality nerve and muscle preservation to limit risks of surgery, such as erectile dysfunction or urinary incontinence. I find that this approach addresses many quality-of-life concerns. Dr. Morgan is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in Prostatectomy. What is the definition of Prostatectomy?

Simple prostate removal is a procedure to remove the inside part of the prostate gland to treat an enlarged prostate. It is done through a surgical cut in your lower belly.

When should I see a Prostatectomy doctor in North Carolina, US?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Prostatectomy doctor in North Carolina, US?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Prostatectomy doctors in North Carolina, US?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Prostatectomy doctors in North Carolina, US?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Prostatectomy doctor in North Carolina, US?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Prostatectomy doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Prostatectomy doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Prostatectomy doctor in North Carolina, US?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Prostatectomy doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Prostatectomy doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Prostatectomy doctors in North Carolina, US?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Prostatectomy doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Prostatectomy doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Prostatectomy doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
