Colleen Ditro is a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), certified nurse practitioner, and the lead Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) for the orthopedics, pain and wound care teams at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. She is on the medical advisory board of the Little People of America, is the camp nurse for Camp Seneb, a summer camp for children with skeletal dysplasia, and teaches nursing students as an adjunct faculty member at West Chester University. She’s been a pediatric nurse since 1987, and is a past board member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Practitioners Society (POPS). Colleen joined Nemours in 2004, and earned Nurse of the Year honors for all of Nemours in 2013. I have wanted to be a pediatric nurse since I was 16 years old, when my brother passed away from leukemia. His nurses took such great care of him, I knew what I wanted to do with my life.  I jumped at the chance to join the skeletal dysplasia team at Nemours. I saw that it was an opportunity to be part of a close-knit team and something I could jump into whole-heartedly. I really feel passionate about taking care of the families and children we see. I’m passionate about providing high-quality care to families — family-centered care, where we make sure the whole family is included and provided for. Our families often come quite a distance for care and I want to make sure they leave feeling it was worth the trip, that everything fell into place for them and they’re satisfied with the care they got.  I’m also passionate about nurses. I teach nursing at West Chester University, and do all I can to help them become great nurses and know how to provide high-quality care for families and children. I really try to help families in our skeletal dysplasia program connect with resources and with other families with similar conditions and circumstances. We have families from all over the world, so if I can make the connection for a family on the west coast, for instance, with another family of a child with a similar condition in their part of the world, they don’t have to feel like they’re out there by themselves. Dr. Ditro is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pseudoachondroplasia. Her top areas of expertise are Otospondylomegaepiphyseal Dysplasia, Dyggve-Melchior-Clausen Syndrome, Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia Congenita, Spondyloenchondrodysplasia, and Osteotomy.

Dr. Jeffery Campbell has been a pediatric neurosurgeon at Nemours for 20 years. His most notable work is with kids that have skeletal dysplasia and he acts as the neurosurgical component of our larger skeletal dysplasia program at Nemours. Most of his research has been in dwarfism and osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). Prior to Nemours, he worked in a private practice in Charleston, SC. When I was in medical school, I knew that I wanted to do something “brain-related.” During my fourth year, I did a neurology rotation and thoroughly enjoyed the immediate feedback of surgery. I split my residency time between pediatric and adult hospitals, but quickly realized that I loved working with kids. I was able to see kids get better and found the impact I had on them gratifying. My goal as a doctor is to have a long-term impact on someone’s life and treating kids was my path to do just that. I am passionate about providing the best possible care for all children. I enjoy being on the cutting edge of treating rare problems on the skeletal dysplasia spectrum and I take pride in people traveling to Nemours from all over the country to seek such treatment. I love that I can do things that can’t be done anywhere else. I believe that health care should be a team sport. I always advocate for team approaches, especially with complicated cases. I actively create multidisciplinary teams for many of my patients to give them the very best care. Dr. Campbell is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pseudoachondroplasia. His top areas of expertise are Achondroplasia, Increased Head Circumference, Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia, Bone Graft, and Adenoidectomy.

Dr. Ricki Carroll is a complex care and palliative care physician on the skeletal dysplasia and palliative care teams at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware. Dr. Carroll works to provide a medical home and manage care for children with a wide array of skeletal dysplasias. Her background in palliative medicine allows her to focus on pain and symptom management needs for these children, teens and young adults. Dr. Carroll also leads the skeletal dysplasia consultative service, providing care for infants and children with skeletal dysplasias who are in the hospital. Additionally, drawing upon her Master’s in Bioethics, she is currently serving as co-Chair of the Nemours Ethics and Patients’ Rights Committee. It’s an honor and a privilege to care for families, children and teens with skeletal dysplasias and medically complex conditions.  I aim to treat each child or teen as a whole, and not just treat the individual condition, as I feel spiritual and emotional needs are just as important as medical and physical ones. I try to intently listen to each child or teen and family when they are under my care, in hopes of understanding their story and their experience and, therefore, focusing goals of care to their individual needs. My medical interests include:  Clinical management of infants with skeletal dysplasias, including OI, thanatophoric dysplasia, and collagen-II-opathies Emerging medical treatments for skeletal dysplasias The elucidation of the natural history of OI and skeletal dysplasias The role of biomarkers in all skeletal dysplasias Management of chronic pain in adolescents and young adults with skeletal dysplasias Complex medical conditions Palliative care I try to make a difference by focusing on each child or teen as if they are my one and only patient. I aim to provide a comforting environment for kids while they are in our care and always consider how to better manage symptoms and control any pain. I earned a master's degree in bioethics, and often call upon what I learned to help inform how I view the way the hospital and our teams deliver excellent care to children and teens. Dr. Carroll is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pseudoachondroplasia. Her top areas of expertise are Thanatophoric Dysplasia, Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia, Diastrophic Dysplasia, Acromicric Dysplasia, and Osteotomy.

Both of my parents were in the medical field and strongly influenced the direction of my career. I became a physical therapist, which I enjoyed immensely, but I thought I could make a different contribution to patient care by becoming a physician. In radiology, we are part of the medical team that helps diagnose or exclude an illness and we help to direct the course of our patient’s treatment. Working with children is an amazing experience. Kids are so resilient and bounce back from all types of difficult situations. They each have such a unique perspective and we try our best to tailor our interactive imaging procedures to the child. Sometimes this involves providing anatomy lessons to teen patients, other times it involves just “getting it over with.” We aim to make our imaging procedures as interesting and as comfortable as possible. My areas of interest include: Pediatric Body Imaging  Fetal Imaging Child Abuse I try to provide the most accurate information based on our imaging studies to the patient’s medical team so that the child can be treated as quickly as possible. I am fortunate to work with an incredible group of medical practitioners at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children who share my passion to provide the highest quality medical care to all children. David Saul was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. He attended Drexel University for undergraduate studies in biology and premedical education. David also attended Drexel University's College of Medicine to obtain his MD. Subsequently, he completed his internship and residency in diagnostic radiology at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He completed a fellowship in pediatric radiology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He has worked as an attending radiologist in both private and academic practices, before joining Nemours in September 2019. I believe that children are uniquely deserving of our best care because they are innocent, vulnerable and often unaware or not fully aware of their disease. Being a sick kid can be terrifying, and I want to be there to help in some way. I also greatly appreciate and enjoy how often children can recover from seemingly insurmountable disease. Far from making me sad to see illness in a child, it makes me hopeful to think about his/her potential for health and wellness and to enjoy a full life after receiving appropriate treatment. I am driven by a sense of justice, and that the children we serve deserve our best. I care deeply that we provide care in the most up to date, efficient, honest and accurate way possible.  My medial interests include: Education Thoracic Imaging Cardiac Imaging Body Imaging Ultrasound MRI I try to lead by example, to give my best effort for every child, and take as much time as needed with each family that I encounter. I know that many of the families I see, by the time they arrive in my department, are having the worst day of their lives. I want to provide comfort, reassurance and a smile in those times of difficulty because I would want the same for my family. I grew up in China’s Hunan province as an active, athletic child. My mom was a physician and my dad was a medical school professor, so I had great role models. Today I’m a radiologist focusing on pediatric musculoskeletal and body imaging, with concentration on X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy (how things move inside the body). I am certified in diagnostic radiology and subspecialized in pediatric radiology by the American Board of Radiology. I have been working over 17 years, and remain an active member of the Radiological Society of North America and Society of Pediatric Radiology. I really like kids, and I’m glad to help whenever I can. I work closely with clinical teams to help make sure each child’s diagnosis is correct. I enjoy sharing my expertise with other physicians and learning from them. It’s great to get an understanding of how they approach a diagnosis. I think everyone should have access to quality healthcare. Nemours does because we treat all children regardless of their ability to pay. That’s important to me. I have a passion to be part of excellent medical care for children and do my best to provide the best services possible for each child. I believe in working as a team with the medical associates, patients and families to provide compassionate and high-quality care. My medical interest include: Ultrasound  Musculoskeletal imaging I will keep learning to improve my services with updated knowledge and advanced technique, and ensure each child receives the best care possible. Dr. Robert A. Heinle is a pediatric pulmonologist and sleep physician. He's director of the hospital's Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship, medical director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory and co-director of the neuromuscular clinic. He's also assistant professor of both internal medicine and pediatrics at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. I grew up in a big family. There were always kids around, so I had a lot of practice interacting with, and looking out for, children who were younger than me. As a result, I learned early on that I'm good with kids and enjoy working with them. Growing up, I decided that becoming an aerospace engineer would be fun and exciting, so I actually became one and worked at NASA. But, after spending all day, every day staring at computer screens and not interacting with people, I began to rethink my decision. It occurred to me that the perfect combination of my affinity for science, math and physics, and love for working with children would be to become a pediatrician. So, I went back to school. I'm more than glad I did. I love being a pediatrician. I think I appreciate even more the opportunity of working with kids and helping them because of the extra work and commitment it took to go back to school to become a doctor. I love helping children get better if they are sick, and watching them develop from babies to toddlers, then to being big kids and teens. I love working with their families, too. I absolutely love to teach. I teach my own children, and I thoroughly enjoy educating the next generation of physicians as the program director for our hospital's pediatric pulmonary fellowship and as an assistant professor of internal medicine and pediatrics at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. I assist in the education of our hospital's general pediatrics residents and medical students. I also like to help educate my patients and their families about the medical conditions they're facing and about their treatments and home care. I feel that the best tool in health care is, very often, education. I really want to make sure that each patient and family is taken care of — completely. So I make sure that I spend the time each one needs in our appointments together. For this reason, I may run a little late, especially as the day goes on. I turn that into a promise that I make to all of my patients and families: I may not be on time for our appointment, but I will always give you all the time that you need. In addition to making sure each patient's medicine and treatment is squared away, it’s my goal to make sure each patient — and their family — leaves with a better understanding of asthma or whatever pulmonary condition they’re dealing with. Dr. Heinle is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pseudoachondroplasia. His top areas of expertise are Subglottic Stenosis, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Hypochondroplasia, Osteotomy, and Adenoidectomy.

I began my medical career as a practicing pediatrician in Pittsburgh. During those five years, I realized that I wanted to be the doctor who is instrumental in figuring out what is wrong. So I retrained with a fellowship in pediatric radiology. I treat children because I love kids and I feel a wonderful sense of accomplishment if I can make the life of a sick or injured child easier. In radiology, I am passionate about making a diagnosis as quickly and accurately as possible so a child can receive the proper treatment. Outside of work, I am passionate about my family, dancing, Broadway shows and sunny days. When I was a practicing pediatrician, I realized that the most important part of anyone’s care is a proper diagnosis, which is not always easy to ascertain. I try to make a difference by making the most accurate diagnoses possible. Dr. Bron is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pseudoachondroplasia. Her top areas of expertise are Caudal Regression Syndrome, Spondylocarpotarsal Synostosis Syndrome, X-Linked Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia Tarda, and Weissenbacher-Zweymuller Syndrome.

Dr. Vandna Passi is a pediatric pulmonologist at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. She's an author of peer-reviewed medical journal articles, an invited presenter and an active researcher. I always wanted to work with children, and knew I wanted to be a pediatrician since I finished college. Then, in medical school, I spent a lot of my fourth year in pediatric subspecialties. Now, I get a lot of satisfaction seeing my patients over the long term — I can see their progress and development, and watch them as they grow. Children are such fun to work with and it can be simpler to approach their health issues than with adults. It's very fulfilling. One reason I chose pediatric pulmonology was because I liked the mix of being able to see and help children on an outpatient basis (helping kids on well and sick visits in our clinic) and also provide inpatient care to children who are acutely sick and admitted to the hospital. In my residency, I saw a lot of inner-city children. Many became seriously ill simply because their asthma wasn't being cared for, they hadn't been diagnosed properly, or they (and their families) hadn't been properly educated on how to manage their care. This was way more common than it should have been. I knew I wanted to help these kids, as well as all those who had other pulmonology issues, too. I'm passionate about working with patients and families to educate them on the conditions they’re dealing with, and how to prevent serious episodes and achieve the best possible quality of life. I'm also passionate about our hospital and staff continually setting best practices for treating children with pulmonology conditions and following those procedures routinely. I'm especially interested in these procedures being followed in our intensive care unit (ICU), as well as in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and outpatient clinic. A big part of what I do is educate families on what they need to know regarding their child's condition and health, including proper medication and care. I can't be with their child at all times, so it's really about empowering each family to help their child's quality of life. In children with asthma, for instance, I feel they should never be limited. Together with their family, I want to help them do whatever they want to do in life. Dr. Passi is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pseudoachondroplasia. Her top areas of expertise are Subglottic Stenosis, Ellis-Van Creveld Syndrome, Thanatophoric Dysplasia, and Kozlowski Warren Fisher Syndrome.

I am a Nemours radiologist based in Wilmington, Del. at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. I grew up in a family with several close family members working in various fields of health care, who I looked up to as role models. I appreciated from them that joining a medical field not only brought the responsibility of staying on top of the most up-to-date science-based treatments, but also being able to relay this to patients and their families with great empathy and compassion. I used to work primarily with adults and branched out during my career into a pediatric setting, and have absolutely enjoyed working exclusively with children ever since. Children bring such hope, energy and joy, lighting up each encounter. Their current health and well-being is crucial to their growth into a healthy adulthood. It’s a rewarding and humbling privilege to have the opportunity to try and make a positive difference in these children’s and their families lives for the better. I am passionate about working with children and their families as well as our referring physicians to find the best imaging tools possible to most efficiently and accurately identify what’s going on. In this way, patients and family members, together with their clinicians, can make the best decisions of the most appropriate care for their children. My special interests include:  imaging of sports related injuries  musculoskeletal imaging As a radiologist who is also a parent, I try to step into the caregivers’ shoes when working with children and treat them as I would want my own family treated. I try to educate the patient and family so they understand what tests are being done and what the results mean so they can be knowledgeable as they move forward with the best possible care. Alicia McCarthy is a pediatric nurse practitioner with the Nemours Spine and Scoliosis Center and the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Program. I have known I wanted to work with children for as long as I can remember. Children are amazing — they bounce back from unbelievable odds and keep going, no matter what. Nursing combines my love of children and health. I think it’s important to work for children, who otherwise would not have a voice. I am passionate about working with children and families to maximize their functioning and quality of life, no matter what conditions or disorders they have. I am particularly passionate about working with children with chronic or complex medical disorders — every child deserves the best quality of life possible! I also love working with families to help navigate the healthcare system, and giving them resources they need to be successful. I have volunteered for many years at summer camps, including those for children with chronic medical conditions, or whose parents are sick. I also volunteer in a community garden that donates all food to local food banks. I’m proud to work at Nemours. We work with each patient and family as an individual, and treat them as if they are our own. I take that very seriously. I work with families to understand their concerns and answer every question. I strive to coordinate care so that families are not repeating information endlessly or going for needless appointments. I’ve also developed a mentoring program for spine and scoliosis families at Nemours. This program connects patients and families who are newly diagnosed with those that are more experienced in living with conditions of the spine. I’ve also developed numerous patient education materials so that families can reference the information we discuss in clinic once they are home. Finally, I’ve lectured on spinal care locally and nationally, and have conducted several research projects. Even at the start of my medical training, I knew I wanted to be in a field where I get to work with children. After my first child was born premature and required NICU-level care, that experience only intensified my desire to work with kids. Having a child requiring medical care is both scary and stressful. As a pediatric radiologist, my goal is to help alleviate those feelings for parents and children by providing the best radiology service and making it as kid friendly as possible. Pediatric radiology is a perfect fit for me. As a pediatric radiologist, I get to work as a consultant with many clinicians in different pediatric fields. Though radiologists are often behind the scenes, we play a vital role in diagnosing the problem, so that children can be treated and feel better. I am passionate about all areas of pediatric radiology including neuroradiology, musculoskeletal imaging and body imaging. I also work with all modalities including X-ray, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT and MRI. One of my roles as a radiologist is as a consultant, working with clinicians to ensure that we do the best test with the lowest radiation possible. As radiologists, we are always working to come up with new imaging techniques that can avoid or lower radiation and be more kid friendly. I care for children both at Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital and the Nemours Deptford Specialty Care and Surgery Center. At our Deptford location, you may see me involved in fluoroscopy, ultrasound and X-ray. I also perform joint injections for MRI arthrograms at our Deptford location, many which are performed to evaluate sports injuries, joint pain or congenital abnormalities. I’m a kid at heart, and I usually express that in my work. When I was accepted into my pediatric fellowship, following a residency in orthopedics, I knew my professional life would always center on kids. I’m a doer and my favorite quote by Emerson is, “What you do speaks so loudly that I can't hear what you say.” Whether as a doctor, parent, or coach, I really enjoy working with kids. I’ve always found the human body fascinating and mystifying in all its complexity. The science of growth is absolutely amazing. I’m passionate about working with kids. I’ve taken a group of middle school recreational runners to two league championships. I also received a national coaching award at Stanford University. In my research, I’ve helped develop new surgical techniques for an extremely difficult condition called osteogenesis imperfecta. Dr. Kruse is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pseudoachondroplasia. His top areas of expertise are Symphalangism Distal, Kohler Disease, Syndactyly Type 1, Proximal Symphalangism, and Osteotomy.

What is the definition of Pseudoachondroplasia?

Pseudoachondroplasia is an inherited disorder of bone growth. It was once thought to be related to another disorder of bone growth called achondroplasia, but without that disorder's characteristic facial features. More research has demonstrated that pseudoachondroplasia is a separate disorder.

When should I see a Pseudoachondroplasia doctor in Delaware, US?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Pseudoachondroplasia doctor in Delaware, US?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Pseudoachondroplasia doctors in Delaware, US?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Pseudoachondroplasia doctors in Delaware, US?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Pseudoachondroplasia doctor in Delaware, US?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Pseudoachondroplasia doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Pseudoachondroplasia doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Pseudoachondroplasia doctor in Delaware, US?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Pseudoachondroplasia doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Pseudoachondroplasia doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Pseudoachondroplasia doctors in Delaware, US?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Pseudoachondroplasia doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Pseudoachondroplasia doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Pseudoachondroplasia doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
