Dr. Deepika Thacker is a pediatric cardiologist and assistant professor of Pediatrics at Jefferson Medical College. She’s a member of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association and American Society of Echocardiography; an invited lecturer; and an author of journal articles, book chapters and abstracts. I first thought about medicine when I was young and doctors discovered a hole in a friend’s heart. From that moment, I decided I wanted to become a doctor and help children with problems like my friend’s. I never wanted to be anything else. Medical school and my medical training reaffirmed this decision. There is an added attraction to cardiology in that it provides a challenging field of medicine to study — the mix of anatomy and physiology is almost like math or engineering, and I enjoy it very much. Becoming a mother further validated my career choice for me. I see something of one of my own children in every child I treat.I’m happiest when I’m caring for children.. There’s no better feeling for me than when I’ve helped a child get better. At the end of every day I am thankful to be able to do what I do. I always want to make sure that every child gets the best care and treatment, and that we do everything possible for that child. My role is to help each child get the most out of each day. In addition to the care I deliver as a cardiologist, I also try to make a difference every day through my role as medical director of the hospital’s 2B cardiac unit. As we move to more unit-based inpatient care, we’ll continue to always look for ways to improve the great care we give. I’m excited to be a part of that. We’ll continue to work so that patients being discharged can go home sooner. We’ll continue to work to reduce readmissions. And we’ll continue to explore what it means to deliver true family-centered care — making parents and families part of our medical rounding and decision-making. Dr. Thacker is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pulmonary Atresia. Her top areas of expertise are Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C), Kawasaki Disease, Pediatric Myocarditis, Myocarditis, and Heart Transplant.

Carissa M Baker-Smith, MD, MPH, MS is a nationally recognized preventive cardiologist and transplant cardiologist, and the director of the Nemours Preventive Cardiology program. She currently serves as Chair, Atherosclerosis Hypertension and Obesity in the Young (AHOY) Subcommittee, American Heart Association Cardiovascular Disease of the Young. As a preventive cardiologist, I diagnose and treat children with conditions that put them at greater risk for acquired heart disease. We know that roughly 20% of youth are obese. These children are at particularly high risk for the development of hypertension, high cholesterol and for other conditions that put them at risk for early (premature) heart disease. I diagnose and treat children with congenital heart disease. Finally, in addition to specializing in pediatric preventive cardiology, I also specialize in pediatric heart transplantation. I am an ardent and passionate believer in the right of all children to live healthy and productive lives. But without proper attention to matters of diet, exercise, weight, blood pressure and cholesterol, we are cutting short their abilities.  My medical interests include:  Familial Dyslipidemia Pediatric Hypertension Pediatric Heart Transplantation Social Determinants of Health Outside of work, I am a mother, a wife, and a daughter. I am a runner, artist and gardener. Every family has a unique story so I tailor my care to the unique needs of the children that I care for and their families. I’m a proud father of two with two on the way. Being a dad has opened a new door in my life — it’s helped me realize even more how special children are and what family means. I enjoy spending time with family, doing anything outdoors and watching sports. I’m originally from the Bronx, but grew up in Florida and am a lifelong Florida Gators fan. When I was in high school, my older sister was diagnosed with a rare form of pediatric cancer. It required her to get specialized treatment. She at the time was 18 and was looked up to by all the other pediatric patients as a role model, and sometimes even as a babysitter. Her impact on those kids made me want to do something for kids, too. I’m passionate about making sure that children can still experience life as children regardless of their circumstances, location or sickness. I think it’s important to help kids maintain a sense of innocence and fun throughout the process of something as serious as open-heart surgery. I try to make a difference by actively listening to patients and families, offering continued support, having a willingness to research new therapies, and providing seamless communication with primary care providers. I think it’s very important to provide constant feedback and communication for families and involve them in decision-making. Dr. Luceri is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pulmonary Atresia. His top areas of expertise are Fainting, Heart Murmurs, Patent Ductus Arteriosus, and Ventricular Septal Defects.

I treat children because I find it really rewarding to help make a difference with their conditions. Heart diseases can be the most challenging, so seeing them achieve positive outcomes is quite rewarding. Kids are ill through no fault of their own, and helping them see improvements is an amazing blessing. I am passionate about delivering high-level care. Our patients and their families are coming to us in their time of need and they should expect and receive the utmost care for their most prized possession — their health. It’s our job to fulfill that expectation. In addition to providing high-level care, I believe we have an obligation to share our knowledge with successive generations and I believe teaching should be a passion of everyone in the health care field. This helps the medical field as a whole improve and all of us to provide our patients with the highest level of care. I try to make a difference by bringing humor and respect to daily interactions. We all work to be excellent in our respective fields, however it is the human component that separates the good from the great. I try to be both technically good and expressly human in all that I do. Dr. Beaty is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Pulmonary Atresia. His top areas of expertise are Mitral Atresia, Double Aortic Arch, Vascular Ring, Patent Ductus Arteriosus, and Heart Transplant.

I recall the awe and fascination I felt for my own pediatrician growing up, and that inspired me to go into medicine and care for children. The first time I heard a human heartbeat with a stethoscope in medical school, I knew I wanted to be a cardiologist! I enjoy the challenge of putting together information from a patient’s medical history, physical examination, and test results to arrive at a diagnosis. Treating children with heart problems can be complicated, and it’s important for patients and families to understand what’s going on. I pride myself on my ability to explain complex diagnoses and situations in non-medical terms, so everyone can understand. It’s a unique privilege to work so closely with children and families. What is the definition of Pulmonary Atresia?

Pulmonary atresia is a form of heart disease in which the pulmonary valve does not form properly. It is present from birth (congenital heart disease). The pulmonary valve is an opening on the right side of the heart that regulates blood flow from the right ventricle (right side pumping chamber) to the lungs.

In pulmonary atresia, the valve leaflets are fused. This causes a solid sheet of tissue to form where the valve opening should be. Normal blood flow to the lung is blocked as a result. Because of this defect, blood from the right side of the heart is restricted from reaching the lungs to pick up oxygen.

When should I see a Pulmonary Atresia doctor in Delaware, US?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Pulmonary Atresia doctor in Delaware, US?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Pulmonary Atresia doctors in Delaware, US?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Pulmonary Atresia doctors in Delaware, US?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Pulmonary Atresia doctor in Delaware, US?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Pulmonary Atresia doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Pulmonary Atresia doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Pulmonary Atresia doctor in Delaware, US?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Pulmonary Atresia doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Pulmonary Atresia doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Pulmonary Atresia doctors in Delaware, US?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Pulmonary Atresia doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Pulmonary Atresia doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Pulmonary Atresia doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
