Shawn West, MD, MSc, is a pediatric cardiologist at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and an assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. West received his medical degree from Augusta University Medical College of Georgia, after which he completed his pediatric residency there. Subsequently, Dr. West completed a pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Virginia, earning a master’s degree in Clinical Research from the University of Virginia at the same time. Following fellowship, he pursued advanced training in heart transplant, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and advanced mechanical support at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. As an advanced fellow, Dr. West served as the Claude R. Joyner Endowed Fellow in Pediatric Cardiology. Dr. West’s main clinical role is in support of the heart transplant, cardiomyopathy (heart failure), advanced mechanical support, and pulmonary hypertension team. He has participated in several multi-center collaborative research projects. His primary research interest is outcomes-based research of patients following heart transplant. He is a member of the Pediatric Heart Transplant Society, the International Pediatric Transplant Association, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, the American Society of Transplant, the American Heart Association, and the Pulmonary Hypertension Association.
