Dr. Hisashi Tsukada is a thoracic surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  He is also an assistant professor in surgery at Harvard Medical School. He received his medical degree and a PhD in medicine from St. Marianna University School of Medicine (Kawasaki, Japan). He then completed a residency in surgery at Mitsui Memorial Hospital (Tokyo). His fellowships include thoracic surgery at St. Marianna University Hospital, thoracic surgery research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and interventional pulmonology at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.   Dr. Tsukada specializes in Interventional Pulmonology and his clinical interests concentrate on aligning his research investigations to disease processes he has observed in patients as a practicing thoracic surgeon for more than ten years in Japan. Dr. Tsukada started his service at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in October 2014. He has expanded the Interventional Pulmonology procedures up to 1,000 cases per year in 2023. Dr. Tsukada is research focuses on developing an artificial trachea for in vivo implantation and airway tissue regeneration. He has authored 30 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Tsukada is fluent in Japanese.
