Newborns with chromosomal (genetic) disorders, Trisomy 13 (T13 or Patau Syndrome) and Trisomy 18 (T18 or Edward's Syndrome), where the child has inherited three chromosomes of one type instead of the usual two from his or her parents, are commonly born with congenital heart disease (CHD). CHD represents any type of structural deformity associated with having T13 or T18. This study investigated the risk factors for death in T13 and T18 children who underwent cardiac intervention (heart surgery) for CHD.
