Dr. Tara A. Streich-Tilles

I have been providing obstetrical and gynecologic care in the Triangle for more than 20 years. I practice all aspects of OB-GYN, including delivering babies, performing surgery and providing preventative and specialized care in the office. I specialize in two areas: I provide comprehensive pediatric and adolescent gynecological care to children from birth through age 21. I also specialize in treating people whose menopausal symptoms are affecting their quality of life. I am married and have twin boys who keep me on my toes. I have many personal ties to Duke Health and the care provided here. I did my residency at Duke Health, I was a patient at the Duke Cancer Center, and my boys are proud Blue Devil graduates of the Duke Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. I am originally from Massachusetts. I care for children of all ages with a wide range of problems affecting the liver. My special areas of interest include autoimmune liver disease, biliary atresia, progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis, and health disparities. I have always been intrigued by the liver and enjoy caring for all children with any type of liver disease. I also have the privilege of caring for children before and after organ transplants. During this challenging journey, I partner with families to achieve the best possible outcome for each child. Children with chronic liver disease and their families often face significant stressors. I aim to provide the information and guidance needed while they navigate their child’s illness and medical management. Caring for children with liver disease allows me to form special bonds with families, and I am honored to be a part of your child’s health care team. "I can distinctly remember the awe and utter amazement I felt watching my first cesarean delivery. I knew that there was a baby inside the mother's abdomen, but it was amazing to see the doctors deliver it. To see it just ""pop out"". Still, to this day, I get that feeling of awe and amazement every time I help a mom deliver her baby. I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful moment in a family's life. As a maternal fetal medicine specialist, I take care of sick moms, sick babies, and sick pregnancies. Each day, while I get to help women and their families with big wins and happy moments, I also have the opportunity to help them through sad times and some of the worst moments of their lives. It is these hard and sad moments that make the happy ones even more meaningful. I also spend some of my time helping to teach medical students about Ob/Gyn. I really enjoy teaching, and sharing my love for Ob/Gyn with young learners is one of my favorite parts of my job. My other very important job is being a mom. I have three fantastic young boys that keep me busy and remind me on a daily basis how important family is. I love to swim and make jam. Apricot Jam is my favorite.".
