Dr. Andrew Wong

Dr. Andrew Wong helps people manage short and long-term pain. Pain comes from many sources, including injury, arthritis, spine and disc problems, burns, scarring and nerve damage to name a few. “We use a variety of strategies,” Dr. Wong explains. “Physical and occupational therapy, medications, like anti-inflammatory agents, plus ablations and steroid injections, such as epidural injections and nerve block procedures,” he says. Dr. Wong is board-certified in both anesthesiology and pain management by the American Board of Anesthesiology. A biology graduate of University of the Sciences, Philadelphia, he earned his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a fellowship in pain management at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, where he also did his anesthesiology residency. His internal medicine internship was at Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington, PA. Dr. Wong grew up in Philadelphia. He served previously as assistant medical director of pain management at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, PA. He speaks Cantonese. He explains that pain can be complex and he enjoys the challenge of developing a plan to help each of his patients live a better life. “Every person is different, so each plan is tailored to the patient’s unique needs. We don’t just treat pain, but we also care for psychological health. Pain can bring on anxiety and we address that, too. It’s a holistic approach,” he says. That motivation to help others drew him to a healthcare career. “I was always good at science and wanted to help others, but I wasn’t convinced I could become a doctor,” he says. While volunteering at a hospital, a conversation with the volunteer director had a major influence. “She said I could do anything and had the talent to become a leader in my field. She asked – why settle?” he recalls. So, he didn’t – and instead made the commitment to medical school. Philosophy of Care “Unlike hospital anesthesia, pain management is typically a more long-term treatment. I like that aspect of it, getting to know my patients and developing relationships.” Personal Interests In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and their baby, playing basketball, cooking and travel.

His clinical expertise encompasses Sacroiliac Joint Disease, Rathke Cleft Cyst, Hernia Surgery, and Endoscopy.

Dr. Wong is board certified in American Board Of Anesthesiology, 2022 and American Board Of Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine, 2022. He is actively involved in clinical research, co-authoring 41 peer reviewed articles. Dr. Wong is currently accepting new patients.
