
Overview
Dr. Athe Tsibris completed his medical degree at the University of South Florida, his Medicine residency and Chief Residency at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and then entered the combined Infectious Disease Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.He performed his postdoctoral work in the laboratory of Daniel Kuritzkes, MD, where he focused on the mechanisms of HIV-1 escape from CCR5 antagonism. Dr. Tsibris is now an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School who works as an Infectious Disease physician scientist and runs an active molecular virology lab that studies the fundamental biology and dynamics of HIV reservoirs. Athe and his lab leverage innovative experimental approaches to better understand HIV-1 and HIV-2 persistence and use these insights to design and test novel strategies to eliminate latently HIV-infected cells. Currently, Athe chairs a national study of a first-in-human trispecific broadly neutralizing antibody against HIV. Locally, Athe heads the HIV Eradication and Latency (HEAL) cohort and chairs Brigham’s COVID Implementation Committee, a group that facilitates the efficient and fair enrollment of Brigham inpatients into open and enrolling COVID-related clinical trials. He is committed, through work with the Harvard Center for AIDS Research, to the mentoring and career development of the next generation of HIV scientists.

He has served on numerous NIH committees, including as a member of the NIH Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council. He is a former member of the Department of Health and Human Services panel on guidelines for antiretroviral therapy and a past Chair of the HIV Medicine Association Board of Directors. He has been a member of several editorial boards, and serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Infectious Diseases.
