
Overview
Dr. Ely is a board-certified family medicine physician with clinical interests in preventative care, chronic disease management, sports medicine, dermatology and medical education. He is dedicated to delivering patient-centered care with an emphasis on wellness, evidence-based medicine, and compassionate communication. Dr. Ely earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2005 and completed both his internship and residency in family medicine at Doctor's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. With over 15 years of clinical experience, he has served diverse patient populations in both urban and rural settings. Before joining MUSC Dr. Ely practiced for over a decade with the University of Utah Medical Group, where he provided comprehensive outpatient care to patients of all ages. He held academic roles, including Adjunct Faculty at the University of Utah and Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Ohio University. He also served as the Chair of Primary Care and as a co-director of the family medicine clerkship at Noorda-COM, where he mentored medical students and volunteered at a community care clinic. A former Division I track and field athlete and high school All-American, Dr. Ely has a personal appreciation for the connection between movement and health. This background fuels his special interest in sports medicine and helping patients of all ages stay active, whether recovering from injury or aiming to improve performance and overall fitness. In addition to clinical work, Dr. Ely has volunteered extensively in youth athletics and community health events. He strives to support each patient in achieving their health goals through personalized, thoughtful, and compassionate care. His commitment to education and preventive care ensures that patients receive attentive, individualized care tailored to their health goals.
