Overview
I am a thoracic medical oncologist specializing in treating patients with cancers of the chest, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and thymic tumors. I also take care of patients with melanoma. Oncology is a multidisciplinary field; my role on the care team is to recommend medications to treat cancer, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or targeted therapies. Navigating a cancer diagnosis can be scary and overwhelming. My goal is to make this journey less daunting by taking time to answer my patients' questions, getting to know them personally, and striving to treat all my patients as I would my own family members. This means I will be honest with you and take the time to explain treatment approaches so that, as a team, we can select the best treatment option for your priorities and goals. I love being part of the team at Duke because I am confident that we provide top-notch care across the board. When not at the hospital, you will probably find me spending time with my family, at a local sporting event, or pretending I know how to cook.

Duke Cancer Center
I am a part of the thoracic oncology program. I work with patients who have cancers of the lung, which includes non-small cell lung cancer, small cell lung cancer, and mesothelioma. My focus is on clinical care, clinical trials, and developing new therapies for these diseases. When I first meet with a patient, I want them to understand what their diagnosis is, because there are actually multiple diagnoses of lung cancer and each are treated differently. Then I discuss with a patient whether they are a candidate for therapies such as molecular therapy or immunotherapy, and make sure they have a clear understanding of the treatment plan. There are some very promising new therapies for these diseases and we are fortunate to have those available to patients here at Duke. That’s one of the unique things we offer as an academic medical center. Dr. Stinchcombe is highly rated in 13 conditions, according to our data.
