
Overview
Dr. Bartoli attended Cornell University, Harvard University, and the University of Louisville School of Medicine (combined MD/PhD pathway). He completed integrated cardiothoracic surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and pediatric cardiac surgery fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Bartoli cares for patients of all ages from the neonate to the child to the adult.|In parallel with his clinical practice, Dr. Bartoli manages an internationally-recognized translational biophysics laboratory that is independently funded with support from the NIH, multiple congenital cardiology foundations, and industry partners. Ongoing projects examine mechanical circulatory support in the fetus to the adult and include left ventricular assist device (LVAD) design and development, mechanisms of LVAD-associated bleeding and thrombosis, novel LVAD therapies, abnormal angiogenesis in children with single ventricle disease, and cardiovascular biology of the placenta. Advancing the field of cardiovascular medicine and training MD/PhD physician-scientists are major goals of the laboratory.|Dr. Bartoli has won numerous national and international scientific awards that include the 2020 American College of Cardiology Doug Zipes Distinguished Investigator Award “for contributions to cardiovascular medicine and significant body of work”, the Pennsylvania Medical Society 40 Under 40 Physicians Award, and awards from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Society of Mechanical Circulatory Support, and American College of Cardiology. Dr. Bartoli sits on the Board of Directors for the International Society of Mechanical Circulatory Support and Medical Advisory Boards for Abiomed Inc, Evaheart International Inc, and Windmill Cardiovascular Systems Inc. He has published more than 70 peer-reviewed articles in biomedical journals and given more than 65 talks at international locations.|In his spare time, Dr. Bartoli enjoys fly fishing, weightlifting and running, skiing, cooking, and spending time at his farm in upstate New York. “It’s rustic and beautiful,” he says. “I like to go there to get away, enjoy the forests and see the stars at night. Fresh eggs from our chickens are a bonus.”.

Geisinger Medical Center - Thoracic Surgery
Dr. Scott LeMaire is a professor of cardiothoracic surgery, the associate chief scientific officer and the associate dean for research at Geisinger. His primary research interest focuses on thoracic aortic disease, with a particular emphasis on organ protection during aortic surgery, genetic causes of thoracic aortic aneurysm and dissection, and molecular mechanisms of aortic wall degeneration. In his clinical work, Dr. LeMaire offers minimally invasive endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy to treat patients with hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of the palms and/or underarms). This safe, highly effective outpatient procedure can provide patients with immediate relief from symptoms. He also offers thoracic sympathectomy to patients with severe heart rhythm abnormalities that persist despite optimal treatment with medications and catheter-based procedures.|After graduating from Quincy College, Dr. LeMaire earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School. He completed residency training in general surgery, then in cardiothoracic surgery, at Baylor College of Medicine.|He has received funding from the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, and the Thoracic Surgery Foundation for his research studying the pathobiology of thoracic aortic disease. A past president of the Association for Academic Surgery, Dr. LeMaire is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Surgical Research and the second vice president of the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association. He serves on the board of directors for the Thoracic Surgery Foundation, the scientific advisory board of The Marfan Foundation and the board of trustees for his alma mater, Quincy University.|Dr. LeMaire is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
