Emma Mohr, MD, PhD, is a pediatric infectious disease doctor and an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Division of Infectious Diseases. She provides care for children with complex infections, particularly those affecting the bones, brain and stomach. Dr. Mohr has specialized expertise in diagnosing and treating congenital infections (those present at birth) like Zika virus and cytomegalovirus (CMV).Dr. Mohr approaches care in a collaborative way — ensuring that her patients and their families feel heard and that she’s working together with them to develop a care plan that’s best for everyone. She takes great satisfaction in knowing that her specialty is one area of medicine where cures are possible.Dr. Mohr was drawn to medicine by an early fascination with disease spread and outbreaks. This curiosity drove her to complete physician-scientist training, which she uses in her own laboratory to study CMV and Zika virus. He also treats children fighting infections because their immune systems are weak due to cancer, autoimmune diseases or organ transplants.Fascinated by medical puzzles, Dr. Klein works to figure out what causes each patient’s infection and identify the right treatment. He talks with patients and families, listens closely and takes an extensive history.
