"Craig Schmalzried, MD, loves to help people, and he always knew he would someday work in medicine. Now being part of Ballad Health Medical Associates, he provides quality, compassionate care to patients of all ages. ""I try to keep things simple for patients by keeping the cost down and working to find things that can help them slowly make improvements,"" said Dr. Schmalzried, who is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. ""And family medicine is the best way for me to do that."" ""Patients know it's their health, so it's crucial for me to engage and listen to them. A Texas native, Dr. Schmalzried decided to move to the Appalachian Highlands to be closer to his parents when they retired. Dr. Schmalzried found he really loved the mountain views and friendly people, and he relishes being part of the Elizabethton community. In his spare time, Dr. Schmalzried loves to eat local foods, catch races at Bristol Motor Speedway and go line dancing.
