**Daniel L. Herr, M.D., MS,** **FCCM**, is an internist with over 35 years of surgical critical care experience. Recently he joined the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) as an associate professor of critical care working in the cardiac surgery ICU. Before joining MUSC, he was at the University of Maryland, where for 12 years, he served as chief of critical care, director of cardiac surgery ICU, and director of adult ECMO. Dr. Herr's research interests are in the use of ECMO for lung failure, ECMO for long-term lung recovery, and finances for the provision of ECMO. He also has a strong interest in the avoidance and treatment of acute confusional states in the ICU. Dr. Herr is boarded in the fields of Internal medicine, Critical Care and certified in Neuro-Critical care.A Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Herr is an experienced principal investigator with a special interest in novel therapies and devices. He is proficient in regulatory compliance, protocol design, and pharmacology. His research findings have been published in prominent medical journals such as *JAMA, Journal of Neurosurgery, and Critical Care Medicine.* He has also authored several book chapters dealing with the care of critically ill patients. He was one of the authors of the Guidelines for Sedation in critically ill patients. He recently contributed the chapters in the ELSO Red book.As a recognized expert in critical care, Dr. Herr is frequently invited to speak at medical conferences on topics concerning novel/new treatments and therapies for critically ill patients. He has served on several Data Safety Monitoring Boards and often provides consultative services to pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Throughout his career, he has been an active member of several medical organizations.Dr Herr was Assistant Vice President of Scientific Affairs at MedStar Research Institute, as well as Director of Critical Care Research, and Medical Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Washington Hospital Center (WHC) in Washington, DC. Dr. Herr was responsible for all critical care research conducted at WHC and oversaw all MedStar-administered research projects conducted in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition to his clinical and research responsibilities, Dr. Herr was an Associate Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University. Prior to those appointments, Dr. Herr served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at George Washington University in Washington DC, and was Medical Director of MedSTAR, the renowned trauma transport and emergency program at WHC.

Patrick Flume is a Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina. He serves as the Powers-Huggins Endowed Chair for Cystic Fibrosis and oversees a large Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Center, including the largest adult CF program in South Carolina. He also leads large clinical programs dedicated to patients with bronchiectasis and non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections.He is recognized by the national and international CF community having served on the CF Foundation Center Committee, the Adult Care Consensus Committee, and the Advisory Task Force on Adult Issues, the Professional Education Committee, the European CF Society's Best Practices committee, and as founding co-chair of the CF Foundation's Pulmonary Practice Guidelines Committee. He co-led the International Working Group on Antimicrobial Resistance in Cystic Fibrosis. He is the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Cystic Fibrosis.He serves as Associate Vice President for Clinical Research at MUSC, leads a very busy clinical research program for CF, bronchiectasis, and NTM, and is co-principal investigator for the South Carolina Clinical \& Translational Research Institute. Many of these studies are related to new drug and therapy development for patients, but he also has an interest in determining optimal management of CF pulmonary exacerbations and is the co-PI in the STOP trials, aimed at identifying optimal treatments for exacerbations. Dr. Gerard Silvestri is a professor of medicine and a lung cancer pulmonologist at the Medical University of South Carolina with a career dedicated to the evaluation, management and improvement of outcomes of patients with this most common of malignancies. He completed his undergraduate education at Fairleigh Dickinson University, his medical degree at St. Georges University, a residency in internal medicine at the Hospital of St. Raphaels/Yale University School of Medicine and fellowship training at Dartmouth. He has an advanced degree in health services research, also from Dartmouth.Dr. Silvestri began the first multidisciplinary lung cancer clinic in South Carolina, and now evaluates between five and seven new lung cancers per week. His clinical research is patient-oriented and directed towards nearly every aspect of lung cancer care. He has experience in evaluating new technologies for the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer and was the part of the first group to publish the utility of endoscopic ultrasound with fine needle aspiration of mediastinal lymph nodes to stage lung cancer patients. Dr. Silvestri has been a section editor and author of the American College of Chest Physicians evidence-based guidelines on the diagnosis and management of lung cancer. To date, he has over 200 peer-reviewed journal publications, abstracts, book chapters and invited commentaries in clinical care and research of lung cancer. He has lectured as a master clinician in lung cancer for both the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and the American Thoracic Society (ATS), and has served as chair of the Thoracic Oncology Network of the ACCP.
