I knew at a young age I wanted to practice medicine. I was fascinated with people as well as science; how everything worked together to make us who we are. I chose pediatric primary care because I truly enjoy building relationships with families. I love kids and watching them grow. Children bring so much joy and I feel privileged to be a part of their lives. Being a parent myself, I understand and relate to parents and I work hard to help them feel confident and enjoy the challenges and rewards of every age and milestone their child reaches. I believe preventive medicine is important for keeping our kids safe and strong. I am also passionate about setting a foundation for good nutrition and active lifestyles at young age. This can mean a lifetime of health and happiness. We want our office to be a place where families can feel comfortable to express their opinions and concerns, and to partner with us in their child’s care. With a background working with infants who require intensive care, I have special experience in treating newborns and helping new moms succeed in breastfeeding. Chidren are not just little adults. I am continually surprised and fascinated by the different stages of development each child goes through to become an adult. It is an honor to partner with each family during this journey to adulthood.  After more than 20 years in practice, I now have the privilege of seeing former patients become parents, which means I have the opportunity to influence a second generation. There are very few professions that can provide that satisfaction! I am passionate about patient education. In this age of the internet and Google, it’s difficult for parents and patients to navigate through the vast amount of information at their fingertips. It is my job to make sure that they have accurate information so they can make their own health care decisions.  I’m also passionate about my own education. Much of the advice I pass on to current patients, I learned from former patients. Finally, I support education of new doctors in my role as a professor for the Florida State University College of Medicine. I take an active role in training the next generation of physicians during their third year of medical school. Makng a difference is what we all strive to do. Each of us contributes in different ways to our communities. I try to participate in community events and local fundraisers for charities, especially when it benefits a patient. Our staff consistently supports benefits for organizations such as the Epilepsy Foundation and the March of Dimes to name just a few.
