Dr. Hisham Mahmoud is passionate about helping his patients get well. “My primary focus is to ease patient’s suffering and return them to their original state of health,” he says. Dr. Mahmoud specializes in family practice at AtlantiCare Primary Care Plus. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and provides general medicine treatment, prevention and wellness care for the entire family – people of all ages. As an osteopath, he has a special interest in joint and muscle pain relief and has advanced training in joint injection therapy. He is also an ophthalmologist, a medical doctor specializing in disorders of the eye. Holding dual credentials is evidence of his true enthusiasm for medicine. “I was eager to study medicine since I was a young kid. I had a feeling that it would be the profession I would be comfortable with, all my life,” he said. His eye care qualifications make him unique in the family practice office, where eye issues are often first reported. Some problems he can treat on the spot and he has the experience to know when seeking care from a specialist is the best course of action. “Eye complaints are common in general practice. With my experience, I can treat eye problems in more detail and depth to improve the patient’s outcome,” he said. Dr. Mahmoud earned his M.D. from Alexandria University in Egypt, where he also completed his residency in ophthalmology. He earned his D.O. from New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, N.Y. He served residencies in family medicine at Unity Health White County Medical Center in Arkansas and at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, N.J. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is fluent in Arabic. You can’t imagine my feeling when I reach that goal.”.
