James Ryan, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine with Atlantic Medical Group. He provides comprehensive care of athletes and active individuals of all ages, treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions with surgical and nonsurgical techniques. After medical school, Dr. Ryan performed his orthopedic surgery residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. During residency, he served as an assistant team physician for several local high schools as well as for Rutgers University’s Division I football team. Driven by a love for sports and the desire to help patients return to activities and maintain a healthy active lifestyle, he completed a fellowship in sports medicine at Keck School of Medicine of USC (University of Southern California) in Los Angeles. During fellowship, he served as an assistant team physician for the USC Trojans football, soccer, volleyball, and lacrosse teams, as well as the LA Kings professional hockey team.Dr. Ryan has published research on orthobiologics (platelet-rich plasma/PRP), rotator cuff repairs, hamstring repairs, and other orthopedic topics in peer-reviewed medical journals. He remains actively involved in research and serves as a peer reviewer for multiple prestigious journals including Arthroscopy and the American Journal of Sports Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
