Overview
Helping my patients maintain their athletic identity in the face of injury is the heart of my work as an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. My experiences as a collegiate gymnast, runner, and mom of athletes helps me understand the mental and physical benefits of sports participation and exercise. My goal is to return my patients to the activities that are meaningful to them as safely as possible while minimizing risk of re-injury. I have special interest in treating adolescent knee injuries including ACL tears and patellar instability, elbow injuries, and shoulder instability. I also treat shoulder pain in patients of all ages and commonly perform arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs. Shoulder function is key to many people’s daily living and independence, in addition to athletics. I am thrilled to be a member of the Duke Sports Medicine team and the Wake County community.

Duke Neurosurgery Arringdon
I have more than 25 years of experience treating patients of all ages with spinal disorders. I have had an interest in the management of spinal disorders since starting my medical education. I performed residencies in both orthopaedic surgery and neurosurgery to gain a comprehensive understanding of the entire range of spinal disorders. My goal has been to find innovative ways to manage the range of spinal conditions, straightforward to complex. I have a focus on managing patients with complex spinal disorders. My patient evaluation and management philosophy is to provide engaged, compassionate care that focuses on providing the simplest and least aggressive treatment option for a particular condition. In many cases, non-operative treatment options exist to improve a patient’s symptoms. I have been actively engaged in clinical research to find the best ways to manage spinal disorders in order to achieve better results with fewer complications. Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center Arringdon
I am an adult reconstruction surgeon here at Duke. I completed graduate school and residency training at Wake Forest University, followed by a fellowship in adult reconstruction at Duke. My choice to pursue a career in adult reconstruction was based on my passion for patient outcomes. I was truly inspired by patients’ satisfaction and the drastic improvement on their quality of life after total joint replacement. I enjoy the systematic approach to problem solving and the complexity of cases in adult reconstruction, especially in the setting of revision arthroplasty. My clinical and research interests are centered around periprosthetic joint infections, a disastrous complication which continues to pose a challenge to the orthopaedic community. Despite the progress made, our goal to prevent infection following arthroplasty surgery remains unaccomplished. It is not an exaggeration to claim that fear of infection lives in the heart of every arthroplasty surgeon who steps into the operating room. My mission is to provide a personalized assessment and treat each patient individually, based upon their condition and needs. Dr. Seyler is highly rated in 8 conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Septic Arthritis, Infectious Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Knee Replacement, and Hip Replacement. Dr. Seyler is board certified in American Board Of Orthopaedic Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Seyler is currently accepting new patients.
Duke Orthopaedics Arringdon
I am an orthopaedic physician and work in adult reconstructive orthopaedics, predominantly with hip- and knee-replacement surgeries. I also help manage revision surgeries and take care of people with infections or fractures around their implants. I am interested in the whole continuum of care for arthritis and not just the surgical treatment of it. Even though I specialize in surgery, not everyone needs that treatment, and as an orthopaedic doctor, my role is to help direct the whole process. The care around revision surgeries at other centers is tertiary and many times not at the same place, but here at Duke we treat patients every step of the way at the same practice and have access to the latest treatments. Dr. Jiranek is highly rated in 9 conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Osteoarthritis, Septic Arthritis, Infectious Arthritis, Knee Replacement, and Hip Replacement. Dr. Jiranek is board certified in American Board Of Orthopaedic Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Jiranek is currently accepting new patients.

I’m an orthopaedic surgeon that specializes in elbow, wrist and hand injuries. I treat fractures, sports injuries, and acute traumas, as well as more common ailments like tendonitis, carpal tunnel, arthritis and trigger fingers. The best thing about going to work every day is that regardless of the number of patients I have at a time, I have the opportunity to make a difference in each patient’s life. Duke offers cutting edge technology and research, but we also excel in patient care. That combination makes Duke a special place for our patients. Outside of work, I like to spend time with my wife and two children. We enjoy following the Boston Red Sox and local baseball teams. For exercise I like to run, swim and play tennis. Dr. Richard is highly rated in 10 conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tennis Elbow, Mononeuritis Multiplex, Wrist Arthroscopy, and Osteotomy. Dr. Richard is board certified in American Board Of Orthopaedic Surgery, Surgery Of The Hand and American Board Of Orthopaedic Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery . I am an orthopedic surgeon with additional training in hand, peripheral nerve, and microvascular surgery. My practice, in particular, focuses on the treatment of acute and chronic peripheral nerve injuries in patients of all ages, from birth to adult. These encompass injuries in both the arms and legs, the brachial plexus, as well as extremity dysfunction that result from stroke, traumatic brain injuries, cerebral palsy, or spinal cord injuries. In our clinic, we strive to listen and systematically work to diagnose the injury in order to present treatment strategies. Treatment may include careful observation with therapy or surgical options that involve nerve decompression, repair, or reconstruction or extremity reanimation through muscle, tendon, or bone-based surgeries. In providing comprehensive multi-disciplinary care to achieve the best outcome, we have established a peripheral nerve team with providers from neurosurgery, plastic surgery, neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, radiology, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Understanding that recovering from nerve injuries takes time, my team and I will be alongside you at each step in your journey toward restoring function and well-being.
