
Overview
Dr. Larry Rand is an obstetrician and gynecologist who specializes in high-risk pregnancy and maternal-fetal medicine. He is director of perinatal services at the UCSF Fetal Treatment Center. Rand has a special interest in fetal disorders. In addition to caring for patients during labor and delivery, Rand counsels them, coordinates their care and participates in prenatal diagnosis, specializing in procedures such as chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, intrauterine transfusion and fetal biopsies. He also has expertise in interventions such as lung and bladder shunt placements, fetal bladder taps and multifetal pregnancy reduction. In his research, Rand has a special interest in complicated monochorionic twin pregnancies. He has presented research in the fetal treatment community internationally, and in 2009 he was nominated for a Young Investigator Excellence in Research Award at the national meeting of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. He holds leadership positions at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and serves on its committee on patient safety and quality assurance. Rand travels to West Africa and Central America several times a year to perform surgery and to treat high-risk obstetrics patients with limited access to care. He also works to help create sustainable health programs in these countries.

Dr. Mary E. Norton is a perinatologist and clinical geneticist who cares for pregnant patients who have a fetus with a birth defect or genetic disorder or are at risk for such a condition. She performs obstetric ultrasounds, counsels patients with abnormal ultrasounds and performs prenatal tests like amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling. She also interprets complex genetic tests, especially when abnormalities are found.
